Anastasia's POV
"We're not having this conversation right now." I scowl straightening my dress as we walk up the sidewalk leading to the Garrick's house. "Then when were you going to tell me that you're investigating the Lights new partner?" He shoots back sharply stopping me right before their porch.
"I'm not sure Wally, but it's not a big deal." I continue smirking as he jumps up on the first step so he's taller than me rather than the same height.
He scoffs throwing his head back letting his eyes roam around the quaint neighborhood to make sure none of the other elderly couples are ease dropping. "If that were true then you would have told me." Now I step up beside him alarms going off in my head as I do because he's right.
He usually is when it comes to this stuff...
"I'm sorry."
"You said this wouldn't be a problem, that I could trust you." He sighs, and oh Zeus he's looking at me like he doesn't even know me. Why has this been how most of our conversations have been going lately? Is the job that I love to do really that much of a stress enducer for the both of us?
"You can trust me!" I shout my voice wavering pathetically as I do, but even then his hurt expression doesn't diminish. It's not like in the books where he's quick to apologise and showers me with kisses declaring how we'll never fight again.
No, this is real, the side effects of being teen heroes and highschool sweethearts are finally starting to catch up with us. On top of that we're stressed with everything that's going on now. We're both still in college, I'm now trying to balance being a superhero again, and we're trying to plan a wedding.
I didn't expect this to be easy, but I'm not sure what I was expecting.
He's still blankly staring at me with disappointment, but it's ten times worse than even the look my mom used to give me because he's making me feel like I'm ruining his entire world.
"I'm sorry..."
"Why don't I believe you?"
I nearly burst into tears right then and there, but I'm not going to do that and make him pity me and feel bad for what he said. He's right, I was in the wrong, and now I have to deal with it.
He steps up to the door opening it, and I take a minute to compose myself before following because Wally and I don't need another counseling session from Iris and Barry.
"Careful, kid. If you are what you say you are, revealing too much could crash the time stream." I catch Wally say ignoring him slightly, not because I'm mad but because I want to give him space. So I go give Joan and Jay a hug.
"Wally, Ana what are you doing here? Not that we're not delighted to have you." Joan asks looking between us, and acting like she is immediately picking up on something. that I don't know. "Nightwing called, thought we might be of some help with this mess." Wally sighs looking down at the little boy that's staring at him with wide eyes.
"Plus it's your seventieth anniversary, we had to stop by." I add on forcing my eyes off the boy who looks so much like a little Wally or Iris, clearly he took after the West's.
"And you're Anastasia West, well Prince right now, but it's so cool to see you before-"
"Remember kid, we don't want to crash the time stream." I chuckle crouching down so I can set my hand fondly on his shoulder. "Right sorry." He apologizes looking down a blush enveloping his checks, and I give him a broad smile silently saying he's okay.
"Hello?" Barry asks picking up his phone as a ring goes off, but he just gives us a confused look when it's not his. "It's mine babe." Iris sighs giving an exasperated eye roll that just screams ugh work. "Don't answer that, I mean... Why interrupt the reunion?" The boy laughs nervously turning sharply to Barry, who's oblivious, because I'm sure he feels uncomfortable under my quizzical stare.
