You had always been able to see Cas's wings. You never payed any mind to it, thinking that the boys could see them too. They were darker than pitch black. They were the darkest black you had ever seen, but they also looked soft like silk. They moved with his emotions, up and open wide for happy, down and close to him for sad.
One day you couldn't help but just stare at them, getting lost in the hundreds of feathers. Once Cas had disappeared, Sam immediately questioned you. "What the hell were you looking at?" you furrowed your eyebrows at him. "Cas's wings?" you were confused. You were under the impression that the brothers could see his wings too. They shared a look, before turning back to you. "You can see his wings?" you nodded slowly. "You guys can't?" they shook their heads no. "What does it mean then? If only you can see them?" Sam looked from you to his brother, who shrugged.
"Why don't you just ask him" Dean suggested. "No! What if it's a bad reason?" you protested. "Yeah right" Dean replied sarcastically before looking back down at the book in front of him. "I'll look at a few books, but if I can't find anything, I will ask him" you huffed in response to Sam's words. "Fine"

It had been a week since the conversation with the boys. You and Sam were sitting in the main room of the bunker, Sam's nose in a book, looking for lore, while you were reading newspapers for hunting cases. All of a sudden, Sam spoke. You jumped and looked over at him. His eyes were closed as his head tilted up. "Hey Castiel. If you're not too busy, I have a question for you" you glared at him. "Sam!" you hissed. Before you could say anything else, you heard the flap of wings. "You called, Sam?"
He nodded. "I did" he glanced over at you, and you were still glaring at him. "Do you know what it means if a human can see an angels wings?" Cas furrowed his brows and tilted his head to the side. "All humans can see angels wings. They aren't like our true form, it won't burn their eyes" Sam shook his head. "No, not like that. I mean all the time. Even if the angel isn't showing his wings"
"Oh, that means they are soulmates" your jaw dropped, and you were glad Cas was facing away from you. Sam restrained himself from letting his jaw fall slack. "Soulmates?" Cas nodded. "It's rare, but my father hand picked soulmates for some angels. If a human can see an angels wings constantly, that means the angel and the human are soulmates" Sam nodded slowly.
"Why do you ask?" you gave Sam a pleading look. You were overwhelmed with the information as it is, you didn't want Cas to know you could see his wings. "Oh, uh, I just saw it mentioned somewhere in some book but I couldn't find the real answer. So I thought, why not ask a real angel" Cas nodded. "Thank you Cas"
"You're welcome" Cas turned to you, giving you a smile. "Y/N" you smiled back as casually as you could before Cas disappeared. You stood up quickly from your chair. "Soulmates?!" you and Sam said at the time. You didn't really say it, more like you yelled it. "Who's soulmates?" Dean asked as he walked into the room. "Cas and Y/N" Sam answered nonchalantly. You leaned over the table and smacked the side of his head while Dean spit out the sip of beer he had just taken. "What?!"
"I just asked Cas what it means when a human can always see an angels wings. He said that means, and I quote, the angel and the human are soulmates" Dean's mouth fell open, just as yours had done. "You didn't tell him?!" Dean questioned you. "No! This is overwhelming as it is! I need a little time to wrap my head around it before I tell him!" Dean sighed in defeat. "Fine, but if you don't tell him, I will"

The next day, the four of you were sitting around the long table in the main room of the bunker. You looked up as you saw Sam and Dean staring at you. 'What?' you mouthed to them. They both glanced at Cas before looking back at you. You rolled your eyes at them. "I'm gonna to get a beer!" Dean announced as he stood up. "Me too!" Sam said as he followed Dean into the kitchen. You rolled your eyes at them, shaking your head before looking back down at your book.
"Y/N?" Cas said after a few moments of silence. "Yeah Cas?" you replied, not looking up from the book in your lap. "Why did Sam ask about angel soulmates yesterday?" you furrowed your brows and looked up at him, trying to act as casual as possible. "Uh, he told you yesterday why he asked you" you answered him. "He was lying" he said matter of factly. You bit the inside of your cheek out of nervousness. "Do you know why?"
You sat there for a moment, debating on what to say. You nodded slowly after thinking about your answer. "Why then?" Cas continued to pester you. "Um, because someone we know is constantly seeing an angels wings" you told him. "Who?"
You felt yourself freeze up as you looked into Cas's piercing blue eyes. You felt as if they were looking directly into your soul. Maybe they were. "Um...." you paused for a moment, looking down at your hands, then back up at Cas. "Me"
"Oh. Have you been seeing my wings?" you watched his wings spread out behind him, the feathers rustling slightly. You couldn't help but glance over at them. "Y-Yes" you stuttered out. "So... we're soulmates?" you asked warily. Cas nodded. "Don't feel obligated to act on this. You don't have to, Y/N" you felt your heart swell at his caring words. "I..." your voice trailed off. You could find the right words to say to him. So you decided to not say anything.
You stood up, quickly walking around the table and over to him. He watched you intently, not sure what your plans were. You reached down and gripped the sides of his trench coat, pulling him up to meet your lips. You kissed him deeply, your hands holding his trench coat tightly. "Finally!" you pulled away with a jump, turning to see Sam and Dean standing in the doorway. "What?" you furrowed your brows at them. "Soulmates or not, you guys have had the hots for each other for like... ever!" Dean said. "The hots for each other?" Sam muttered under his breath. "Shut up Sammy" Dean said, smacking his brother in the chest. "We'll leave you two alone" Dean gave you a thumbs up before the brothers walked back into the kitchen.
You turned back to Cas, who was standing now. You looked at his wings that were spread out as far as they could go. "You have pretty wings" you said with a smile as you rested your hand on the side of his face. "Thank you Y/N" he said before leaning down to kiss you again.
