Delancy has spent so much time with the Torres, till she considers them family. The big happy family and more funny twins have been so nice to her ever since she started working.
The wedding of Amber and Robert is in one week and Grandma Patty's birthday would be coming up a day before the wedding. Delancy has volunteered to help with the decorations for the birthday.
First, she went to the stores to get drapes and then drove to the Torres family house. She was about to knock when Andre came with his toy gun pointing at her. "Till we find the criminal, we'll rob you."
"Sorry, I can't be robbed today. Where's -?" A loud bass drowned Delancy's question. Zak came into view and clutched his heart theatrically as Andrea shot him. "You got me, Chief." he began to fall in slow pace.
"You can't die yet." Andre ran to Zak. "We have to burn you at the stake."
"Chief," Helen pointed out. "They don't burn people again."
"We do." Andrea told her disapprovingly.
"All right, All right." Zak straighted up. "Let me say hi to the pretty lady."
Delancy found that she was blushing and he hadn't even said hello to her yet. A horn sounded from the driveway, sending the twins running to their father's car. Mike Torres got out, went to the back and opened it.
"Is that our chocolate ices?" Andrea asked of the carton box her father was bringing out.
"No, it's Grandma Patty's birthday wine. Stand back a bit." Mike said trying to step clear of Andre, who was lovingly wrapped around his knees.
"Hold on." Zak walked to him. "I'll collect the carton."
Mike looked down to speak to his son and the carton tilted, Andre wedged his toy gun under it and it bent further till bottle hit bottle.
Zak ran to the rescue but before he reached, the carton had fallen with glasses breaking. A red stain started to seep through the brown carton.
Mike snatched up the twins so they won't get hurt. Zak knelt beside the carton and Delancy dropped her bag of drapes and hurried to kneel at the other side, forgetting their differences in her eagerness to help.
"Let me help you." Mike said.
"No, There's two of us here for that." Delancy said.
Zak gave Delancy a questioning glance, then grinned at Mike. "You heard what the lady said."
Delancy stood up. She assured herself that it wasn't because of Zak, it was because he could do it alone.
She asked Mike if she could take the rest of the stuffs inside. "Sure, thank you." Mike replied."Chiefs, Now you two go inside. Mike's bringing your ice cream in few minutes." She took the items to the kitchen and dropped it, then Zak came into the kitchen with the carton of the remaining wine and the other hand holding her drape bag. "Thanks for taking the bag."
"Don't you want to wash your hands?" Zak asked.
She looked at her wine-sticky finger and shrugged "Okay."
He turned the tap for her while she washed. She noticed blood trickle from his thumb. A bright red amongst all the red stains. "You're bleeding!""It must be from the broken glass." he said as he examined it.
"It's quite deep."
"It's nothing."
"How can you say that? Do you have an antiseptic?"
Zak shook his head with a dreamy smile. Delancy turned the other tap, mixing it for the right temperature. "I'll wash it."
"Oh, you can wash it." he said softly. "I don't mind you washing it."
His dreamy smile deepened as she held his hand. "Keep right there holding it."
His other hand stole up to her and his fingertips stroked the nape of her neck.Everything became unreal and her blood leapt to meet his fingers. His index fingers stole to her mouth and teased it's corner. "Ivory skin." he whispered. "Really attractive."
"A-Antiseptic?" She said trying hard to remember germs.
"I had an anti-tetanus shot last week."
"Oh, that's...better. I'll leave now." Delancy said and left the kitchen.
"Your bag." Zak said but she was gone. He sighed then turned off the taps. "Delancy" He called as he went out. "Here's your bag."
"Yeah, thank you." She replied softly.
