Logan Would Never Kiss Me

Logan liked to take pride in the idea that he was smarter than everyone else in the group. However, if someone who didn't know him saw him gently stirring a Crofters jar with a spoon without really paying attention to his surroundings, they'd think that he was puzzled about something. They would be right, but anyone who knew him wouldn't dare say it to his face. Logan knew he couldn't change the actions and dialogue of the past, but he continued to dwell on it as if looking for a hidden message or something out of place like a pile of autumn oak leaves in a picture of a pine forest.

For the sake of entertainment, Remus forced Patton into a slumber and, thanks to the oddities the Sides faced on a daily basis, nothing Remus could conjure could give away that Patton was dreaming. As Logan could tell when he entered Patton's mind, though, the father figure was scared, but he wasn't scared enough to come to the conclusion that he was dreaming. With little to no thought, Logan cursed Remus under his breath before walking up to Patton and kissing him. As the teacher pulled away, Patton was frozen in his tracks and his expression went from slowly turning happy to quickly turning somber. Before they both escaped the dream, Patton shouted, "It's a dream! Of course it's a dream! Logan would never kiss me!" Logan quickly left for the living room and could sense Remus leave as he presumed Patton was waking up.

So, Logan was just looking at the jelly he was stirring and thinking over the past as if the jelly was the magic gumbo Mama Odie stirred in "Princess and the Frog". He couldn't comprehend why he chose to kiss Patton in the dream above all else. Was it to shock him into consciousness? Was it because of the freedom dream environments provided? And why did it trouble Logan that Patton was about to express happiness before there was an emotional 180? As Logan was thinking over what he did, he had to admit that he didn't dislike the kiss and he wouldn't object of given the opportunity to kiss Patton again. The thought opened the floodgates to a multitude of thoughts that he couldn't tell if he repressed or overlooked: he never really minded the company of the other Sides, but Patton being present made a beating in his chest increase in tempo, the father figure leaving an area they were both in made the teacher feel a peculiar kind of emptiness at the pit of his stomach, he took personal responsibility for making sure Patton's day was emotionally and mentally pleasant, and he found himself wondering what it would be like if the two were closer socially and emotionally than they were.

His thoughts drifted to an article he read about how to know when someone was falling in love (so he could better understand when Thomas was experiencing romantic feelings for certain guys) and a good portion of the article started to feel close to home for him. He stopped stirring and stared in the direction of Patton's room as things were making sense to him: he wanted to be closer to Patton in a different way than the other Sides, he wanted to share that addictive kiss with him again and again, he wanted to feel himself in Patton's arms and drown in his embrace, he wanted to call Patton his and to be called Patton's. He wasn't the best at expressing emotions, so he figured being blunt and honest would be the best approach to telling Patton his feelings.

Logan marched up to Patton's door and opened it...but he saw Patton asleep again and Remy standing where Remus initially stood. Logan looked confused since he was a non-Side denizen of Thomas's mind.

"Wh-what did you do?" was all Logan could muster in bewilderment.

"Pattycake told me he had a dream of kissing you and he wanted to sleep longer to experience something he could never have," Remy explained, not caring what Logan knew.

"How long did he agree to sleep for?" Logan asked with worry coating his voice.

"The longest I could put him to sleep for was 100 years. It was the Sleeping Beauty deal, really. He said himself that to eternally be with his dream man is to eternally dream. Not that you'd give a damn, anyway, girl," Remy retorted, sounding bitter as he reached his conclusion.

Logan looked at the peacefully sleeping father figure and wondered why it would seem farfetched for him to care about Patton. He mentally cursed himself as he remembered the words "Logan would never kiss me". Why couldn't he show that he did more than just tolerate Patton? Why did he have to deny feeling anything? Why did it have to take so long for Logan to realize that he loved Thomas's morality? It would always linger in his mind and it would not matter until Thomas's death because he overlooked his emotions and was punished by Patton trapped in a slumber Logan could never persuade him out of and the last thought his love would ever think was that his feelings for Logan would be unrequited.
