I. Spilt Coffee And Sexual Frustrations Are A Major Downer

HEATHER

"You've got to be freaking kidding me!?" I shout in annoyance as I spill my freshly made iced coffee down the front of my blouse. I guess that's what I get for trying to juggle too many things in my hands at once, while trying to unlock my mom's antique shop.

Mrs. Robins walks by and gives me a grimacing smile as she notices my current predicament.

"Oh honey. Having a rough morning?" she asks me as she walks by on her way to work.

"Yup," I snap back frustrated.

"It'll get better sweetie, just hang in there," she reassures me sweetly.

You know I wish I'd stop hearing that. It's been three months and it seems ever since that day, my life has been filled with nothing but bad luck. I'd give anything to have one day where I don't have something unfortunate happen to me.

When I finally open up the shop, I leave it unlocked but I don't turn the sign to 'Open' just yet. Instead I pull out my phone and dial my best friend and sister-in-laws number. She answers on the third ring and I can tell she's in the middle of playing with my niece Sarah.

"Yes sweetie?" she answers sweetly with laughter in her voice.

"Bex, I need a favor from you. I'm having one hell of a morning and spilt my iced coffee all over my white blouse. Can you run next door and grab me a new shirt please? That's if you're not too busy," I pout. I don't want to be stuck wearing this thing all day with a large brown stain on the front.

"Of course sis. I'll be there shortly," she assures me and I can hear her telling Sarah to get her shoes because they're coming to see me. I can't help but smile as I listen to my best friend interact with her toddler.

I'm sitting at the stool behind the glass counter when Bex comes walking in with a clean blouse and a fresh iced coffee in hand. Little Sarah comes running in and beams at me as she sees me walking out from behind the counter.

"Auntie!" she giggles at me as she jumps up in my arms. I smother her with kisses before putting her back down and grabbing the shirt and coffee from Bex.

"Thank you so much, you're a life saver," I give my best friend a big hug and instantly feel better as she holds me close for a while longer than usual.

She can tell when I'm upset and knows just what to do to make me feel better. We've always been like that with each other. We are more like sisters than best friends. Even before her and my big brother got married and she legally became my sister.

When she separates from me she gives me a concerned look and furrows her brow.

"Are you okay sweetie?" she asks and I know she's genuinely worried about me. Everyone is now-a-days. I swear every time I turn around, someone is asking me if I'm okay.
