XL. Princess Milena And Her Knight In Shining Armor

CARTER

THREE YEARS LATER:

"Daddy are you really sure there's no monsters in
the closest or under my bed?" Milena asks cautiously as she stands in the doorway to her bedroom.

"Yes princess, I've looked three times and there's no monsters in your closet or under your bed," I reassure her as I pick her up in my arms.

I kiss her little cheek lovingly and lay her down in her bed. I kneel down next to her bed, tucking her into her Disney Princess bedding. She smiles at me with her beautiful green eyes and grabs a hold of her little horse stuffed animal.

"You promise daddy?" she pouts, snuggling into her pillow.

"Yes, I promise. Besides, if there were any, I'd beat them up for you," I throw up my fist, punching the air playfully as she giggles.

"What are you two doing in here? Aren't you suppose to be going to bed and not giggling young lady?" Heather smiles as she walks in and sits on the other side of Milena's bed.

"Daddy was checking my room for monsters mommy," she smiles, making my heart melt. She's such a sweet girl and even has the same sense of humor like her parents; constantly, making us laugh.

"Was he now? Well isn't he quite the knight and shining armor?" Heather smiles over at me. I raise my brows at her and grin.

"Okay Princess, it's time to go to sleep. I love you baby and sweet dreams," I lean over and place a kiss on her forehead.

"Goodnight daddy and be careful at work. I love you," she speaks sweetly and I smile down at her before gently stroking her hair. I love my little girl, my pride and joy. I never knew what the undying love of a parent was until the very moment Heather pushed her into the world.

It's nights like this that I can't wait to get my certificate to be an arson investigator finally. The work itself is less dangerous with better pay. The schedule is much better, allowing me to be home everything night at five. Not having to leave in the middle of the night for my shift will be worth it.

I hate having to tuck Milena in and leave her right afterwards. I love fire fighting, don't get me wrong, but it can be draining on a family. I know that every time I leave, I worry both my girls.

Heather softly kisses Milena's temple, making sure she's snug in her comforter. When she gets up from the bed, I glance down at her belly, noticing the bump that's finally showing. She's pregnant again with our second baby.

It's funny how we tried and tried before finally getting pregnant with Milena but when we stopped trying and honestly were just happy with having at least one child, she got pregnant, surprising the both of us. She's nearly four months along and we will be finding out soon what we're having. I walk out into the hallway as Heather closes the door, leaving it cracked just a little. I reach down and softly rub her belly before leaning over to give her a kiss.

"I love you sweetheart. I love all three of you so much," I smile down at her as she beams up at me.

"Why do you have to be leaving right now. You talk like that and I get in the mood," she purrs up at me as she walks towards the stairs.
