XXVIII. Lack Of Moral Education Is Evident In The Scott Family

"That crazy bitch is a fucking liar Sheriff! I didn't tell her any of that. There's a reason no one in our family can stand her," Bryan yells after hearing Vanessa's confession about how he informed her of Heather's condition, along with some other shit Mike made up to rile him up.

Of course Bryan is denying everything from the planting of the bottles to harassing Heather at the market. Could he really be that dense? Mike already got the footage from the owner Thelma, clearly showing Bryan walk up to Heather and grab her. I had to stop myself from beating his ass after I saw it.

"Watch this," Nate nudges me with a smile as we watch on the computer screen in Mike's office. There's a camera in the interrogation room that is allowing us to listen and watch. They recently installed it since they don't have one of those side rooms with a two-way mirror. This way they can record and watch from another room as the suspect is being held for questions.

"Okay well she's already made a statement claiming that it was all your idea to tamper with Heather's car and didn't care what happened, you just wanted her to pay. Which means...you'll be arrested for accessory to attempted murder. Plus there's your fingerprints all over the bottles that were inside Miss Daniels car, showing proof of Miss Scott's statement about you planting them in her car to frame her. If you're innocent, you better start talking now - but since you're being difficult, I might as well make up the report and call it in for you to be taken to Summerhill Penitentiary," Mike shrugs and collects the folder, standing from his seat to walk out.

"Wait! Sheriff wait! If I tell you everything will you give me a deal? I didn't do anything wrong," he offers and I can tell just by over the camera he's coming out of being intoxicated for who knows how long. He's itching for a drink by the way his body keeps twitching and the amount of perspiration on his face. I know that look all too well, thanks to years of experiencing it with my dad.

"Depends on what you tell me, but I can consider it and see what I can do. If you're truly innocent, there's no need to arrest you for conspiracy to murder," he smiles, giving Bryan false hope as begins explaining everything.

"I'd got a call from my cousin a couple months ago about how she was upset her boyfriend of two years had just broken up with her. I didn't feel bad for her at all because, let's admit it, the crazy bitch deserved it. Well, when I met Carter a few week ago at Phillip's Market, I recognized him from Vanessa's Facebook. I knew it was her ex and I couldn't believe he was actually here. What a fucking small world is all I could think. I wouldn't have cared really except he was with Heather. Something came over me right then and I couldn't handle Heather moving on with someone else," he admits and runs his hands through his greasy hair in aggravation.

"But you broke up with her. Why do you care if she's moving on. Do you still have feelings for her?" Mike asks curiously, acting as if he really cares.

"I don't know, maybe. I started thinking about what if I made a mistake, at least when she was miserable it was because she missed me, missed us and if things didn't work out with my new girl, we could end getting back together. But if she was moving on, with him especially out of everyone in the world, I couldn't take it. It didn't help that night at the bar either," he growls as he squints in eyes in absolute anger. His jaw locks up and he begins taping his fingers aggressively on the table top.

"Seeing her dressed like that, looking all hot, the almost four years we were together she never dressed like that and looked that damn good. What pissed me off is she did it all for him. When I walked in and saw them all over each other at the bar, all I could think about was she never kissed me like that. She had been holding out on me the whole time we were together. Maybe if she'd treated me like that, we'd still be together,  then I would've been satisfied enough to not leave," he spits as he leans back in the chair. I ball my fist up at his words, digging my fingernails into the palm of my hand. Nate lets out a disgusted grunt and I can tell it's also taking everything in him not to go into that interrogation room and bash Bryan's face in.
