XXXIV. Just Take The Bull By The Horns Already

CARTER

"That's what I'm talking about! Get in deep boys!" Mike Miller yells in Nate and Bex's living room while watching the Minnesota Vikings game.

I chuckle to myself at how excited he's getting. Don't get me wrong, I love sports too, but I don't go all out like this family does. Every Sunday during football season, they have a get together to watch the game. But it's not just with football, it's any sports period. The television constantly has some kind of sports game on daily and apparently it's been going on like this for years. Even when they were all kids and would meet up at the Miller's house down the road.

"Oh come on ref what the hell are you thinking?!" Bex yells out next to her dad and I look over at Nate as he chuckles while cleaning up the kitchen.

"You tell him baby girl!" Mike pats his daughter on the shoulder and smiles down at her proudly. I smile to myself as I watch them together. I hadn't seen this side of Bex in a long time. I remember going to the sports bar in college with her as she'd get all riled up while watching sports. Sometimes I'd have to look out for her because she'd start running her mouth to the wrong guy that didn't like a girl who had more sports knowledge than him.

JD appears from the living room with a smile on his face. He's sporting a purple and yellow Vikings jersey and flat billed hat. Representing his team as a dedicated fan. Since I've been a part of this family, I'm come to learn how great of a  kid he is. Not to mention how damn smart he is. I know one day he's going to do great things in the world.

"Hey buddy, hiding from your mom and grandpa?" Nate laughs as he grabs two bottles of water from the fridge, handing one to JD.

"Yeah. They're both going crazy in there. Aunt Hev and Sarah were smart going with grandma to run errands," he laughs, taking the bottle of water from his dad before heading back into the living room. Nate smiles after him and sits in the stool next to me.

"So how are things going with my sister? You've made it two months dating her. Congrats! You just might make it past the three month mark," he jokes, patting me teasingly on the back.

"Geez thanks!" I laugh and take another drink of my beer.

"I think things are going great, just wish she'd move in with me already. I've been asking her for over a month now with no luck," I groan and rub my hand over my jaw.

"You know what your problem is, you keep asking instead of just doing. With women like Hev, you need to take the lead sometimes and tell her what's up. I had to do that with Bex and now look," he grins from ear to ear, looking past me.

"You did what with me?" Bex asks as she walks in to the kitchen to grab two beers from the fridge. She looks up at me and holds up a bottle, silently asking if I want another one. Once I nod my head, she slides it across the kitchen island, showing off her bar maiden skills. When she looks over at her husband expectantly, he reaches for her waist, pulling her in close to his side.

"Took charge, told you what was what when we first got back together," he grins widely at her, making her laugh.

"Oh you're too adorable babe," she smiles, giving him a loving kiss while grabbing his chin between her fingers tips. He jerks his head away laughing before playfully biting at her hand.

"I was just telling Carter he needs to take charge and quit asking Hev to move in. Just tell her already that she's moving in and leave it at that," he explains to her and she nods her head in agreement.

"Yup, I agree. Women like that in a man. Well, at least women like Hev and myself. We adore that you're nice and respectful but sometimes, we secretly like the whole "caveman" vibe. It's a major turn on for bull headed women like us," she winks and gives Nate another kiss before heading back into the living room.

I grin at her remark, wondering if maybe I should try that. From what Bex told me before about Hev's relationship with Bryan, he never took charge. Basically Heather ran the relationship when she had enough of waiting on him. They didn't even move in together until after two years of dating. Who does that? Bex said that Hev kept waiting and he'd never do anything to move their relationship to the next step. How they lasted as long as they did, is a mystery to me.

That's why it was such a big shock to everyone when he proposed. Of course now we all know it was because she kept bugging him about getting married, making it pointless. Shit, we've only been dating two months and I couldn't image going that long without putting a ring on her finger.

I decide I'm going to take their advice and think up a way on how I'm going to go forward with my current predicament. Heather needs a man that can show her he's not afraid to take charge and give her that security in life. I can definitely be that guy for her.

She doesn't need a guy that keeps her waiting or who's unsure of what he wants with her, with their relationship. That makes her second guess herself and her future with him.

At the end of the day, I know what I want. I want her and I want to move forward in our relationship. I already made up my mind a while back on where I wanted our relationship to end up. I just keep praying that Bryan didn't totally fuck up her perspective of what she once wanted five months ago. But I love her more than anything and I've been working my ass off at proving to her that I'm not him and I'm not going to put her through what he did. She will know everyday that I love her and that she's my world.

The front door opens up and Heather and her mom walk in while little Sarah runs between them towards the living room and into her mama's arms. She's wearing a tiny Vikings jersey that matches the rest of the family. Looking adorable as hell with her brown braided pig tails that apparently her dad did for her. I think it's pretty awesome that he does that for her. It's a special bonding routine that they have together.

The girls have more drinks and food for barbecuing later in their arms so both Nate and I get up to help them with the bags. Heather sits a 24 pack of Bud Light on the counter and for once she doesn't stare at it, feeling the itch to have a drink. I'm so proud of her. She's came so far in the last two months. I know it's been a struggle for her but she keeps battling, taking one day at a time.

After she puts it in the refrigerator and helps her mom put the groceries away for later, she looks up at me with a warm smile. When Nate and Maria take their leave towards the living room, I lean back against the counter and pull her into my embrace. She wraps her arms around my waist and leans up to kiss me. I love kissing her and I could honestly do this with her all day long if she'd let me.

When she lays her head on my chest, there's a warmth that radiates through my body. God I love this woman so much.

I never thought I could feel this way about someone else to where I can't get enough of that person and when I'm not around them, I feel incomplete. After our brisk make out session, I snuggle my face into her hair, placing a kiss to her temple. She lets out a small sigh, squeezing her arms tightly around my waist and I know she feels the same way with me. Like we can't let go of one another and need to touch each other constantly.

"God I love you so much," I tell her softly as she looks up into my eyes. A warm smile makes its way onto her face as she places a kiss to my jaw.

"I love you too baby."

In this very moment, if I were to suddenly leave this world, I'd die a happy man. All of that is because this wonderful woman in my arms.
