XXXVI. Time To Reset My Apple Watch, My Biological Clock Is Ticking

Walking down Main Street after my lunch, I'm on my way back to the shop when someone calls out my name from behind me.

"Heather! Heather Daniels?!" a woman's voice calls me and when I turn around it's an old classmate, Hillary Stevenson, from high school coming up to me with a stroller and a small child with angel blonde hair, grasping the side of the handle.

We were on the cheerleading squad together back in high school and she went off to college in Florida after graduation. She had never came back home afterwards, apparently loving the constant sunny weather and ocean breezes. It's been years since I last saw her. God it's crazy to say that. Has it really been that long since we graduated?

"Hello Hillary, how are you?" I ask as she pulls me in for a hug. Hillary looks amazing in her navy blue maxi skirt and black tank top, adhering nicely to her curves. Motherhood and time has done well for her.

I look down at the little boy who's now moved closer to her and is holding onto the hem of her tank top with a shy smile. I give him a warm smile and his brightens, showing me his missing front teeth. I remember when JD looked like that, it was so adorable.

"I'm doing great! Here with the hubby and kids visiting my family for a small vacation before Jake has to go back to work. Also it's now Hillary Edwards since I got married nearly ten years ago," she beams and shows me her beautiful wedding ring. It's encased with diamonds and I'm sure it cost more than what I make in one month.

"Oh that's wonderful," I smile warmly at her. I'm not shocked though. Most people from high school have at least married and had kids by now. Of course, not me, still unmarried and childless. I can feel my face pull into a small frown as the realization hits me.

"So what about you? Did rowdy Heather Daniels finally tie the knot and have little ones?" she asks curiously. When her baby inside the stroller starts to fuss, she leans over to shush it and pop a pacifier in its mouth. It suckles it and slowly closes its eyes, falling back to sleep.

"Nope, still unmarried and no kids. Guess I just haven't found a man who can handle me enough to settle down," I laugh nervously.

Only thing is I have but I don't think we are there yet. He hasn't even mentioned marriage or children to me and we've already been dating for a couple months. Yes we've been having unprotected sex but it hasn't taken in the last two months we've been together. I wouldn't say we are necessarily trying, but more of not caring about the possibility of me getting pregnant. It's not like I can anyways. Maybe he's just taking advantage of that and that's why he hasn't mentioned it? My chest tightens as I think of the possibility that Carter could be using me that way.

"Oh honey that's a shame. You'd make one hell of a wife and mother. Maybe one day you'll find a man who can. I'd hurry though, that biological clock is ticking. We aren't as young as we use to be dear," she teases. Oh really? I could smack her right now if I had the energy and her children weren't present. Does she really think I don't know that?

We reminisce some more on our high school days and she tells me a little about life in Florida. By the end of it, I could care less. I just want to get away from her and her perfect life.

"Well I got to get back to my mom's shop, it was great seeing you Hill. Take care," I hug her quickly and continue walking towards work.

I'm sitting on the stool, helping a customer, when Bex comes walking in. I look at the time and it's already past four in the afternoon. Thankfully the rest of the day went by faster than I thought it would.
