VII. Lucy, You've Got Some Explaining To DoHEATHER
I stand in shock as I watch my very best friend walk up to this charming and handsome firefighter and give him a big hug.
He wraps his arms around her into a big bear hug. I silently laugh at how funny it looks. She's so tiny, smaller than even me, and he's damn near a giant. When she steps back from him, she's beaming from ear to ear. I wonder how she knows him.
"Oh umm, Carter this is Nate, my husband," she smiles as she looks up at my brother and wraps her arm around his waist. Nate smiles at him and reaches his hand out to shake it.
"Wait, thee Nate?" Carter looks at Bex suspiciously as he shakes my brother's hand and she nods.
"Wow, well hell man it's great to finally meet you. Granted, I didn't hear the greatest things about you back in college but glad to see you have buried the hatchet and patched shit up," he grins at my brother who laughs and nods his head in agreement.
College? Wait could this guy be the same guy Bex told me about a couple years ago?
"Thanks man. I heard a lot about you. All great things. Thanks a lot for what you did for Bex," he reaches up and pats Carter on the shoulder.
I guess he is. Wow! Small world.
She only told me a few things about him before but now I'm curious as to what he's doing here of all places. I look over at Bex with a look like she's got things to explain. She winks at me and nods her head.
"Hey man, it was my pleasure. Bex was literally my best friend out there and I'd do anything for her. She's a good kid," he laughs and playfully punches at Bex's arm, who smacks at him with a laugh.
"What do you mean 'was' Carter? I'm still literally your only best friend that I know of. You always had to mean mug people and intimidate them that everyone was afraid to talk to you," she laughs and he nods his head in agreement.
He does have serious eyes but I find them mesmerizing and honestly a major turn on. What the hell am I thinking? Calm the hell down Heather. You don't even know the guy.
"Yeah but you weren't short stack," Carter mocks Bex and ruffles her hair.
"Short stack? Oh I like that one," Nate squeezes Bex and kisses her temples with a laugh.
Carter looks over at me and smiles. His smile is amazing. It literally would light up a room. To think that everyone was too intimidated by him to give him a chance when he's got this contagious, bright personality that illuminates any room he's in.
I smile back at him as I look his body up and down. He's got noticeable muscular arms and I'm sure he's well defined underneath his navy blue shirt. His hair is short on the sides and longer up top, curling back from the small amount of hair gel he's got in it to hold it back off his forehead. I begin to imagine what it would feel like to run my fingers through it.
I quickly look away as my body starts reacting in a way it hasn't in three months. At least not to anyone else other than Bryan. No one has been able to catch my eye since him. Not until today.
