22BBY Flashback
The air was thick with the scent of scorched wiring and spacecraft fuel. The base hangar, still echoing from the recent, successful siege of an outer-rim territory, fizzled with the slow hymn of post-battle maintenance and standard operating procedures.
Clone troopers lounged on crates and low benches, plates of ration bars half-finished, helmets resting beside them. Laughter and idle chatter bounced around the space, a rare moment of calm interwoven into the camaraderie of the 501st.
Hardcase was mid-story, animated as always, recounting how he "accidentally" launched a thermal detonator into a fuel line—"which wasn't my fault, by the way, Jesse was distracting me."
Fives snorted, elbowing Hardcase. "Distracting you? You were singing into your helmet mic."
"That was strategy. Psychological warfare."
"Yeah," Kyle snorted. "Against your own brothers."
Even Rex cracked a quiet smile, arms crossed, standing beside Jesse and Appo.
Then, without warning, the room shifted. Not with noise, but with a flamed whisper of silence. The kind of stillness that fell like an emerald cloak casting across a sunlit horizon. General Ky had entered.
Her silhouette cut against the bright hangar lights behind her, weaving crisply between the ships and transports. Her eyes, as always, were calculating, scanning without needing to speak. Her presence commanded attention, even when she said nothing at all.
The small cluster of clones straightened. Some stood. Helmets slid back on.
"All right, break's over—" Rex started.
"At ease," Dakota said quietly, and the whole room seemed to exhale. She glided forward between Rex and Dogma, and, to everyone's surprise, sat with them. Right on the crate beside Hardcase, who blinked, caught off guard by her proximity.
"Don't go anywhere just yet," she requested, and they obliged without a second to consider otherwise. They shifted back to their original places, albeit a bit stiff. "I'm here to brief you on recent developments."
"I figured this was easier than making an all-call." She pulled a small holomap disk from her belt and activated it. A blue schematic of the city flared to life above the crate.
"The Council's orders were to continue the siege at dawn. Take the second facility by force. Blitz it. Overwhelm the separatist before they can regroup."
