"Get out of the way!"
The frozen battlefield erupted beneath the white snow, sending searing heat mixed with icy shards across the ground. Moving as fast as she could, Dakota jumped away to avoid the blast, pushing any clone that she could out of the line of fire. Battle droids gliding above the terrain on attack speeders littered the snowy atmosphere with plasma blasts, narrowly missing the clone soldiers that fought below them.
"We're too exposed!" she yelled, climbing back to her feet on the slippery surface. Droids approached on foot, in tanks, and on speeders. With a light twirl of her green double saber, she readied her defense stance, holding tight to the hilt. Piercing fire from the enemy sizzled in just about every direction, melting holes into the white blanket that her boots sunk into.
As she deflected a blast, a back pressed to hers. "We can't keep this up for long." She said to the presence at her back, guarding each other's flanks. "Have the wounded been pushed back to the glaciers?"
"Almost." Rex fired a series of pellets at several incoming B1 droids that skirted across the snow in their direction
Frigid flakes blew roughly in the breeze, stinging her face and clinging to her dark lashes. The melanin in her cheeks was being replaced with frost-bitten red.
A tank screeched across the descending slope, its heavy treads chewing into the ice. Its cannon rotated in their direction, the whine of its charge audible even through the snow fall.
"That one's aimed for us," Rex muttered, visor flashing green as another enemy blast ricocheted off Dakota's saber.
She peered over her shoulder and over his pauldron to see the tank with her own eyes. "No, it's just aimed towards us." She quipped.
Even through his visor, she could feel the flat look he shot her. "Just trying to think positive here, Captain."
She pivoted around him then, sliding forward across the ice. Her boots skidded purposefully, saber spinning in a tight arc to deflect the tank's blast upward. The heavy plasma bolt bounced from her sword and smashed into an overhanging cliff of ice. The ice cracked, groaned and finally collapsed, burying a whole wave of advancing B1 droids under glittering shards.
Rex chuckled low in his chest between firings. "You always were good at breaking things."
She grinned despite herself, spinning to cover his armored flank as he dropped to one knee in the snow. His rifle spat red bolts into a squad of speeders circling around. One skidded out of control on the slick ice, spiraling straight into a tank tread and detonating in a plume of snow and fire.
