Master Yoda sat cross-legged on a raised platform, his wrinkled, green eyes half-closed but attentive as he gently guided the younglings in their morning drills. They moved in a slow, circular pattern, their multicolored blades low and stances tight.
Each one of them moved uncoordinatedly, but they were slowly getting the hang of it. The chamber doors to the practice room slid open with a low hiss.
"Master Windu," Yoda said without opening his eyes, sensing him before he spoke. "Interrupting, you are."
"I wouldn't, if it weren't important," Mace replied without emotion, as was typical. The younglings gawked in awe at the master who had disrupted their practice session.
Yoda gestured to a pause in the exercises. "Break, we take. Reflect on stillness. Not on our mistakes."
The children bowed slightly and sheathed their sabers, scattering quietly to the edges of the windowless room. One lingered near the center, stiff and tense, fists clenched. His teeth grit together as he remained hyper-fixated on his sword.
Yoda stepped down from his platform, cane tapping lightly on the stone as he moved toward Mace. "Another front, attacked it has been." Yoda said, already knowing why he was there.
Mace nodded. "An outpost near Sullust. A surprise siege. The Council needs to address reinforcements as soon as possible."
"Always more fighting," Yoda murmured, looking out across the children. He hummed. "But more watching, we must do. Especially here. To our future, we must build up."
As they spoke, Mace's dark eyes wandered, drawn toward the youngling still standing in the center of the room.
The boy's brow was furrowed in frustration. His small frame was rigid, lip curled in a near-silent scowl. The saber hung loosely in his grip, knuckles white. That all too familiar look in his eye struck a chord with Mace.
"You see him?" Mace asked, his tone quieter now.
Yoda followed his gaze. "Hmm."
"He reminds me of someone," Mace said. "Someone who once stood in that same spot. Angry. Impatient."
Yoda hummed to himself, a chuckle bubbling up for a brief moment. "Know who you speak of, I do."
Mace gave a short nod. "She used to lash out when she failed. And would rather break the forms than be beaten by them."
Yoda's eyes narrowed in quiet memory. "But learn she did. As these younglings will."
