You Promised...

~Kody's POV~
I woke up slowly. Oh god, am I in the hospital again?
Oh, right. From using magic. I glanced sideways to see Lumine.

He rolled over on his side. I remember he blacked out and I guess I did too.
That's really all I know. I looked down at his hand on his pillow.

It had a bandaid on the back of it. He probably cut himself somehow.
"Lumine," I whispered loudly. "Mhhm," he groaned.

Oh. So he is awake. "Why are you here?" I asked.
He opened his eyes slowly. He didn't answer. "Umm...?"

"I just remember a fist in my face. That's all," he said quietly.
He had his head on his pillow, not looking at me.

"Oh. Right," I said. I laid my head back on my pillow.
The door knob turned. "Kody? Lumine?" My dad's voice said.

Lumine and I got up off the pillows and turned to him.
"Oh, you're awake! That's great!" Dad said happily.

"What happened?" Lumine asked. "Apparently Calla and her friends did something and Kody tried to fight against them and failed," Dad said, sitting in the chair by our beds.

"Gee, Thanks," I grumbled sarcastically. I turned to Lumine. "What did happen to your hand?" I pointed down at him.

"Um...I...accidentally cut myself...?" He said it like a question. Dad stood up. "I'll leave you guys to it!" He said and left.

I sighed. "I know you're lying, Lumine. I won't get angry," I said. Lumine stares at his bandaid. "I...cut myself...with a razor...," he stuttered.

"Why?" Lumine looked at his bedsheets. "I don't know. I wanted to. It helps take the pain away," he tried to say. "Lumine...don't do that anymore," I said faintly.

"Sorry," he mumbled. "I don't want you getting...thoughts that will hurt you even more," I tried to explain. "O-oh," Lumine stammered.

A week later~
We were finally discharged from the hospital. We were in the car coming home.

Lumine was staring out the window the whole time. Kody kept glancing nervously at him. He felt like there was something Lumine wasn't telling him.

At least he doesn't have the sling anymore. And his stitches are slowly fading away, Kody thought. "Boys? Do you have something you'd like to tell me?" Aiden said as he drove.

Neither of them said a thing. "Not really," Kody finally said. "Are you sure?" Silence. "Yeah," Kody said again. "Okay...I hope you guys know how much I care about you," Aiden said seriously.

"I don't want you to feel like you can't talk to me," He went on. Kody looked like he was on the verge of tears, wanting to tell him everything but how he didn't know why Lumine acted like this.

Lumine kind of turned his whole head towards his window, determined not to look at Kody or Aiden.

~Kody's POV~
"I don't want you to feel like you can't tell me anything," Dad said. I really did want to, but all I knew was Calla was part of this and Lumine would get mad.

So I couldn't say anything. I also noticed Lumine keeps staring at his window.

At home~
~Lumine's POV~
When we went through the door, Silver and the other people came to greet us until Sherry smacked them. I tried to be cheerful but then went straight to my room.

I felt really depressed. Calla started to bully me when I came to school. She knew me before I joined; I was Kody's bodyguard.

She still bullied Kody for the first couple of days, but not like she used to. And then she decided to go after me. But I also felt really bad because I dragged Kody into my own mess.

I got involved in his, trying to protect him, but I was his bodyguard then. He was never mine. I sat on the floor, wrapping my arms around my knees.

I buried my face in my white hoodie and cried. Don't cut yourself, Kody was saying. His voice was ringing in my ears.

I knew I had to do something. I pulled my razor from my drawer where I kept it. I sliced it across my wrist. I didn't care about the pain anymore.

I was honestly used to it. I sliced until blood trickled down my arm. "Great," I mumbled. I snuck into the bathroom without anyone noticing and rinsed my bloody arm.

I then grabbed the bandages and wrapped my wrist. I pulled down my sleeves so no one saw. I sighed and walked out of the bathroom to find Kody standing there, about ready to cry.

~Kody's POV~
I heard Lumine go upstairs when we got home, so I decided to give him some time alone. I went on my phone since I had nothing better to do.

I eventually got bored with that, so I decided to check on Lumine. He wasn't in his room when I went in, but I did see a razor out.

Oh no, I thought in horror. I swear, Lumine, if you... I turned the bathroom knob without knocking. I saw Lumine bandaging his wrist and arm.

He looked at me, shocked. "You promised...," I managed to choke out. He burst into tears. I wrapped my arms around his skinny body.

He buried his face in my shoulder. "Lumine, I didn't mean to make you cry...I...I-I'm here for you if you need me," I said softly.

I pulled away from him. "But...why are you so distant? What's been going on?" I inquired. He sniffles, looking down at the floor.

"I said, what's happening?!" I said more loudly. Lumine bit his lip. "I-I...Calla...hates me...," He stammered. "But...why?" I had to ask.

"I don't know," he mumbled. His eyes were red and swollen from crying. But I did realize she'd stopped bullying me, so maybe she got tired me?

"Why are you so different? You're not so cheerful anymore...," I said sadly. I said it to him but also more to myself. "I don't know anymore. It's just been...different. Calla's been bullying me since I started s-school and I felt really down about it," Lumine said.

It made more sense after he said this. And it just came out of the blue when I started sobbing myself. I threw my arms around him again.

"I-I'm sorry! You're my only friend I have. I loved my mom, but she left me. I don't want you losing me too," I sobbed into his shoulder.

"Kody...," Lumine said quietly. "I'm sorry I haven't been myself. I've kept it bottled up Inside, but I think it helped to get it out. And...I wanted you to know the truth...but I didn't want you to hurt more...," he murmured.

I felt that tingling feeling. I looked into his eyes. "I...like you Lumine..." He turned beet red. "I like you too...,"
