CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR: THE OVERREACTING
When I woke up this morning, I was surprised to feel somewhat excited, but also nervous to have a car ride with Aaron. It's not like me to be nervous about seeing a guy, especially a guy like Aaron. Although, I'm not even sure what a guy like Aaron means anymore. But, lately, something's been different. And by lately, I mean literally since this weekend. I guess, I'm just hoping that since we're spending more time together maybe he'll begin to tell me a little bit more about his life and about how he feels. I opened up to him so it's only fair that he does the same thing eventually, right?
"Adria, hurry up!" my mom screams from the bottom of the stairs.
I roll my eyes at her words. School literally starts in like 30 minutes, I am even earlier than usual.
After brushing my teeth, I tie my wavy hair in a high messy ponytail and throw on a pair of high-waisted ripped jeans and white oversized crop top. I grab my leather jacket and my book bag from my window seat and slip on a pair of white Sperry's before going downstairs to meet my annoyed mother.
She's currently sitting at the kitchen counter reading today's paper. Next to her is a bagel and a glass of orange juice. She may be annoying but she's the sweetest mom ever. My breakfast always being ready makes up for the fact that she's a real pain in the ass in the morning.
"You better start being on time soon because I won't be calling you every morning in college to make sure that you're up".
I roll my eyes at her words; she complains about my tardiness every morning. But, seriously, she shouldn't complain today because this is the fastest I have ever been ready in a long time.
"That's okay mom, perfect attendance isn't necessary in college", I tell her with a smirk on my lips.
At my words, she snaps her head towards me with a surprised look on her face. Her reaction makes me laugh. Of course, I only said that to get that exact reaction out of her.
"That is so irresponsible Adria, now I will make sure to call you every morning".
I laugh once again, before drinking my entire glass of orange juice and grabbing my breakfast bagel to go. "They have this thing called Do Not Disturb on phones now".
The surprised expression on her face turns to slight annoyance. My mom is so easily irritated and I have so much fun with her because of it. Poor mom. "Adria, you will have to be responsible in college".
"See you later mom, love you", I tell her before opening the door and stepping out of the house.
I hear her scream something at me from outside but I just laugh it off.
Of course, I was only semi-kidding. Attendance isn't necessary but I will not miss every single of my classes. I'll only be missing the really boring ones.
Once in my car, I start it and back up from my driveway only to enter Aaron's.
He's sitting on his doorstep playing on his phone, like usual. When he sees me, he puts his phone in his back pocket and he gets up and heads towards my car.
This has become a routine since the month that Aaron has been here, but today is different. I don't know if it's just me who feels like this but since what happened this weekend I feel like Aaron and I's relationship has shifted completely. I'm not talking romantically, not yet anyways, but we know each other a lot better now and that's weird in a way. He knows about everything that happened with Brady and I saw him in a very vulnerable state. I still don't know what caused it, but, that's still improvement from where we were a week ago.
