CHAPTER EIGHT: THE PREPARATION
After hanging up the phone on squealing Aubrey, who's really happy about going to the party, something about meeting a guy, I walk into my bathroom and turn on the tap of hot water to prepare myself a big hot bath. Maybe the bath is going to calm my nerves a little.
The fact that I'm really going to a party after a year and a half of ignoring them is really making me nervous. I don't want to be taken advantage of again. For all I know, maybe that's why Aaron wants me to go so badly. Why else would he ask me to go there? It's not like he likes me personally or anything; which is a good thing because I'm not particularly fond of him either.
After putting my IPhone on its dock and blasting some Billie Eilish in the bathroom, I undress myself and step into the steaming water coated with strawberry scented bubbles.
There's nothing that calms me down more than this. Sometimes I even fall asleep in the bath; which isn't really a good thing since I can drown but usually if my mom hears the music in my room longer than usual she comes to check on me. I'm lucky I have that woman because I could be six feet underground right now.
But today, since Aubrey's going to arrive any time now, I shampoo and condition quickly and wash my body with my strawberry scented body gel.
Just as I'm wrapping a towel around my waist, I hear three loud knocks on the door. That must be Aubrey because she 's always loud and noisy. I've never heard her whisper one time in her life.
Once the towel is securely placed around me, I open the door only to come face to face with an overly excited Aubrey. She has a wet bun on the top of her head and is wearing a pair of spandex shorts with a pink Nike sweatshirt. In her left hand she has her cellphone and she's holding a suitcase in her right hand. I assumed she would bring a lot of dresses and other things but I didn't think she would have a whole suitcase of stuff. This girl never fails to surprise me.
"We better get started monkey" she says with a huge smile on her face. "I have the perfect outfit idea for you!"
I roll my eyes and walk past her and into my walk-in closet to put on a robe before meeting back Aubrey inside my bedroom. She's sitting on a stool in front of my long mirror on the wall. Next to the stool she places about three curling irons and a hair dryer.
"Sit down", she says after getting up from the stool. "I have to do your hair".
I sit down without saying a word and look at my face in the mirror. I don't really find myself attractive. I have big brown eyes surrounded by black circles, which makes me look tired all the time, my nose is a little too thin and pointy for my circular face which looked strange with my defined cheekbones and my lips are a too small for the rest of my features. My mom, Aubrey and of course Connor always tell me how pretty I am but I never truly believe them. I've never received any other comments from other boys and I'm not the most confident of people. I tend to have a lower self-esteem that I let people believe.
As I am looking at Aubrey drying and curling my hair I can't believe how easy she seems to find it. The only thing I ever do is straighten my naturally wavy hair. I've tried curling them countless number of times but I can't get it right. I guess you either got it, or you don't, and Aubrey really seems to have it. She always has perfect hair and stylish outfits; I've always envied her for her taste.
"I'm going to be making you loose and beachy curls, does that sound good?" she says, snapping me out of my thoughts.
