➸skylar's pov
I was woken up to my phone playing loud music, signaling that I was getting a phone call, it was my mom. I hurriedly answered, happy to hear from her.
"Hello?" I still sounded somewhat tired, considering it was early and I'm always tired before school. "Skylar! You answered. I thought you'd still be asleep!" My mom laughed through the phone and I smiled. Hearing my moms voice made me realize just how much I missed her.
"Mom, when are you coming home?" I heard her sigh. My heart began to beat quickly. This can't be good.
"Sweetie, we have to stay here for a while. This business trip is taking longer than expected, I'm so sorry." I couldn't talk, a lump in my throat quickly forming. They've been gone for a while now and I'm beginning to miss them, especially my mom.
"And your father and I have suspected the house is running out of food supply for you since nobody has gone shopping, so Liz said it's okay for you to stay with them until we get home. Is that fine with you?"
I smiled widely. "Yeah, mom that sounds awesome!" I was really excited knowing I would be staying at Luke's for a while. It will be like our summer sleepovers again.
My mom laughed through the phone again, making me smile more. "Okay sweetie. I hope you have fun, I miss you." "I miss you too, mom." I heard loud talking in the background. "Well, I have to get back to work. I'll talk to you soon. I love you!" "Love you!" Then just like that. The line went dead and she was gone, again. I sighed as I began to climb out of bed to get ready for school.

I was ready and out the front door in record time. I quickly walked down the sidewalk and trotted up the drive way to Luke's house. I hurriedly raced up their front porch steps, almost falling. I rapidly knocked on the front door, excited to tell Luke I would be staying with them.
The door finally swung open and Luke emerged from the other side, holding his backpack lazily over one shoulder. "Hey Sky." Luke said in between a small yawn. I smiled widely and I'm pretty sure I looked like a weirdo, but I didn't care because I knew soon Luke was going to look the same.
"Luke, guess what!" Luke moved his gaze to me, noticing my excitement. He raised his eyebrows and played with his lip ring as he spoke. "Hm?" I began to jump up and down as I explained. "My parents are going to be gone for longer than expected, and since I have no more food I get to say at your house with you! Luke it'll be like our summer sleep overs all over again!"
My prediction was right. Almost immediately, Luke had a wide smile stretched across his face as he rushed forward and hugged me tightly. "Yay Sky! It'll be like summer all over again! We can stay up and watch movies or write songs and play our guitars and, damn this'll be fun!"
I was starting to believe Luke was more excited than I was. I laughed at his behavior as I grabbed his wrist and tugged him down the porch stairs. "C'mon, you goof. We have to go to school." Luke slid his hand into mine casually as we began to walk down the sidewalk silently.
Suddenly Luke squeezed my hand tighter, causing me to look up into his blue eyes. He looked down at me and smiled. "What?" I laughed as I kept my gaze in his eyes. He just smiled and looked down, shaking his head slightly.
Soon we were walking into our school, receiving many looks from our classmates. Apparently the rumor of us dating spread quicker than I thought.
This was going to be a long day.

The beginning of the day went faster than I had anticipated. But as lunch crept close, the day had begun to drag on. I slowly set my books in my locker and began to walk to lunch, dreading the day as it continued.
Too many people today have asked me about Luke and I and if we were a couple. Every time I would say no, it would just end up with them laughing and telling me I don't have to keep it a secret anymore. I finally gave up and I would just roll my eyes every time someone would ask me about it.
I lazily slid into my usual seat next to Luke. He smiled at me as I sat down and he snaked his arm around my waist, holding me tightly against his body. I sighed and laid my head on his shoulder.
I looked around the cafeteria and realized almost every pair of eyes were on us. It didn't bother me until I saw Calum's eyes land on us, his jaw jutted out and the veins in his neck became visible. I didn't want Calum to get the wrong idea and believe I was taken. I pushed out of Luke's comforting hold and slightly pushed him away also.
Luke looked at me, he looked startled. I saw a look of hurt in his eyes as I stared into their blue color. I sighed and leaned close so I could whisper in his ear. "Luke, I don't want people to think we're together, it's weird." I let a exasperated laugh escape my lips.
Luke looked down into his lap, quietly laughing more to himself than me. I could barely hear him mumble a "Yeah, it's weird." Before he quickly jumped up and left the cafeteria.
I sent Ashton and Michael a confused glance. The both of them only shrugged in response, but exchanged glances to each other before going back to their meals. I narrowed my eyes at the pair, I had a feeling they were hiding something from me, but I brushed it off.
I tiredly threw away the rest of my food since I had lost my appetite, and I slowly walked back into the halls towards my locker to get my stuff for the next periods.
I didn't see Luke for the rest of school hours.
Nor did I see Calum.
