➸skylar's pov
I didn't know what to say, I was completely tongue-tied. I kept my eyes locked in Luke's, looking for any sign of anger, but all I saw was hurt and pain. I closed my eyes and looked away, glancing at Calum, who was glaring at Luke until I looked at him, which caused him to look at me and smile.
I slowly looked away and back at Luke, his shoulders were forward, making him look small. I carefully scooted away from Calum slightly, causing both boys to look at me with surprise on their faces.
"Sky... Can we go? Please?" The sound of Luke's voice was small, fragile. His hushed please barely escaped his lips, sounding like a whisper. I could barely look at him without getting a rush of guilt to flow through me.
I knew that for some reason, Calum and Luke hated each other, and now I felt terrible that I hung out with Cal while Like was here with me. I should have been with Luke, not Calum, I probably really hurt Luke's feelings.
"Yeah... Yeah of course Luke." I stood up from my spot on the bench and dusted off my pants. I turned around and gave Cal a smile and I raised my hand to give him a small wave. "Bye Cal." Calum looked up at me and smiled bright before replying.
"Bye Skylar. I'll text you later." Calum said with a smirk. I quickly nodded before rushing up to Luke's side where he was quietly walking towards the sidewalk.
He was walking much faster than usual and I wasn't sure if it was because he wanted to get away from me or Calum. Probably both.
I sighed before trying to comfort Luke by grabbing his hand, but as I slid my fingertips down his forearm he jerked his arm away.
I felt my cheeks flush as I turned my head quickly and jerked my arm back as well. Now I picked up my pace at walking, gaining a couple feet in front of Luke before he quickly caught up in three swift strides. He sighed loudly before grabbing my wrist and sliding his fingers into mine.
His grip on my hand was strong and it kind of hurt my hand the way he was holding on so tightly. I wanted to ask him what was wrong but I was actually too scared to talk to I'm right now. He seemed beyond mad and I'm even lucky that he's holding my hand right now.
As we reached his house he violently shoved the key into the keyhole and cursed when it jammed. I watched him aggressively tug at the key until it finally twisted to the side. Luke quickly shoved the door inside and walked in, leaving it open for me. I silently followed him into the house and up the stairs.
Once Luke and I were in his room, Luke shut his door behind me and walked over to his bed, face planting into his sheets and piles of pillows. I heard him let out a frustrated groan into the nearby pillow. I sighed and sat on the edge of his bed.
"Luke.. Are you okay?" I hesitantly asked, making sure to talk softly. I really don't want him to let his anger out on me, even if I deserve it. I am going on a date with Luke's "enemy". I can see why he would be mad but if he was anything close to a best friend he could at least say he's happy for me.
"Fine. I'm perfectly fine. Everything's fine!" By the end of his small break his voice had grown louder at least twice the amount of his usual tone. I slouched and looked over to his face that was planted deep into his pillow, his hair everywhere and out of place.
"Are you sure Luke?"
"No."
"Wanna talk about it?"
"No."
I sighed and rubbed my forehead before replying a small "okay." I honestly had no idea what to do or say, but all I knew was that the touch of his best friend would help.
Hopefully.
I slowly crawled over to the side of the bed that Luke was sprawled out on. And just as I had reached him, he rolled to his side and looked up at me. His eyes were blank as they met mine. He had put walls up and now I can't read him like I could so easily before. It frustrates me but I don't say anything about it.
I lay next to him and he raises his arm slowly, allowing me to rest my head in the crook of his neck before he wrapped his arm around me securely. I heard him sigh in content, showing that I was correct about my method of calming him.
"I'm sorry." I quietly said. I felt horrible he caught me talking to Calum. It wasn't fair of me to go behind my best friend and talk to someone he hates.
"Me too." Luke mumbles before his hold on me loosens and his breaths become heavy.
Hey guys sorry it's been a while and sorry that this was pretty short but basketball season is over and now I can probably keep up with this book more and update faster. Tennis season is starting next week so we'll see if that will affect my schedule much. Probably not tho.
I have posted the prologue to a new book I am working on because all of my friends have told me they love it and are excited for me to start it so I have posted the prologue to it. Please go read it and let me know what you think? :)
