~ song: 2 / 14 by The Band CAMINO ~
I tug at my jean shorts, standing in the lobby of my apartment building. What do you wear to hang out with a popstar? I went with sandals, light-wash ripped jean shorts and my favorite white scoop neck tee. But now I'm feeling like I should have at least worn a skirt. As I continue to fret over my appearance, a hulking man I assume is Logan walks through the door and makes his way directly to me.
"Ms. Greene?" He asks politely.
"Just Nell is fine."
"Ms. Greene, if you would please follow me," he says and turns around, already five strides ahead. Parked out front of my building is the same black SUV from last night. The back windows are tinted to the extreme, so that I find myself staring at my own reflection. I look frazzled and distinctly terrified. I try to rearrange my expression to seem calm and collected, but I just end up looking confused. Logan opens the door and ushers me inside. A hand extends out to help pull me onto the seat. Leo's face is beaming at me once the door shuts behind me.
"I'm sorry I couldn't come in and get you myself," he says apologetically. Wow, was his voice this lovely last night too?
"Don't worry about it," I shrug. "The paparazzi would just love to see you with a random college girl again."
"That's not it at all," he laughs. "They will definitely see us together today, I would just prefer they don't know where you live." Until now, I had not really thought about that. The only people I told about showing Leo around the city were Ella and Grace. After what felt like infinite screaming and jumping, they tag-teamed my look, Ella trying to find the perfect casual outfit and Grace trying to convince me to let her pluck my brows. Besides them, I hadn't felt the urge to tell anyone else. It was a huge deal, obviously, but somehow, I knew that the less people that found out the better. I guess that didn't matter now, since I would probably make it on the Daily Mail's snapchat story by tomorrow morning anyways. The thought made me shudder.
"Where to first?" Leo asks excitedly, shaking me from my momentary nightmare.
"I thought we would start from the beginning and work our way up into the present day. So Old city first."
Logan immediately swings the car around and heads for Center City. Between his professional maneuvers and the easy conversation that flows between Leo and I as I point out all my favorite spots, we arrive in Old city quickly.
As we walk up to Independence Mall, I turn on my tour guide voice, telling the general history of Philadelphia and pointing out where they filmed National Treasure. Leo laughs at what he calls my "telemarketer voice," so I keep doing it as we walk down the street to Benjamin Franklin's grave.
"Not only was he a revolutionary, abolitionist and father to this city, he also loved music," I told Leo as we peered at his grave through the metal gate. "He made an instrument to replicate the sound of circling your finger around the edge of a crystal glass. Mozart and Beethoven both wrote pieces for it."
"How do you know all of this stuff?" Leo asks.
"I think it's fun to know interesting facts," I shrug. "That, and Wikipedia."
Leo laughs and pulls me back to the car. "As much as I am enjoying this historic tour, I really want to see Nell's Philly." Leo turns puppy dog eyes on me.
"Logan, head to South and Sixth please," I say.
"Where are we going?" Leo wonders out loud. I keep my mouth shut and smile.
