sam and colby had been sitting in this cell for longer than an hour. they sat thigh against thigh, near the metal bars that separated them from the outside world.

colby told sam to run, he was the first found. he tried to protect sam and he failed.

"we're gonna get out of here soon, i promise." sam mumbled to him, afraid of the other people they shared the cell with.

they had only just been reunited moments ago.

"sam, i have three felonies to my name. you have one. we don't know what they're gonna do to me." colby sighed while rubbing his eyes roughly.

"i am not leaving here without you." sam wrapped his arm around colby's shoulder and pulled him closer.

"they're gonna love you in jail, pretty boy." one of their shared inmates smirked devilishly.

colby felt his heart sink to his stomach, swallowing back the urge to throw up and or cry, "god-"

"you're gonna be fine." sam tightened his hold, "we're both getting out of here. unharmed." he shot around the holding cell, narrowing his eyes in the slightest.

eight hours had passed before they even called sams name.

"samuel golbach?" sam quickly pulled himself and colby off the floor, "you can bail yourself at the front."

the cell was unlocked as the guard waited for sam to exit, "what about-"

"cole brock?" colby whipped his head to the direction of his name, "your bail is posted at six thousand dollars, i'm afraid you have to be fully processed."

"wait wait wait- no- what do you mean he can't be bailed-" sam frantically grasped for colby's hand as the two froze in the middle of the hallway. they had to depart here.

"sam-"

"no- i can pay it-!"

"sam!" colby grabbed the blonds shoulders rather rough to snap him out of his spiral. he had to protect him and succeed this time, "you're gonna leave okay? you're gonna bail yourself first, then you'll come back and get me okay?"

"colby-"

"sam! say yes.. just.. say yes." sam could see the sea of fear behind colby's eyes. no matter how hard he tried to contain it, sam could always see right though him.

"okay- yes." sam shook his head, it felt wrong to leave his other half here, his best friend. he doesn't need to be left here. "you can do this colby, you're gonna be okay- i'll bail you out as soon as i can-"

"alright-" the officer reached forward to grab colby by the shoulders.

"no- wait, he's my best friend- sam!" colby yelled instinctively. he was scared. he didn't want to leave sam yet, he wasn't ready.

"colby! you're gonna be alright!" he tried to keep a tight grasp on his hand but failed when the officer dragged colby to the other door.

"SAM!" hearing the piercing yell coming from his best friends throat tore his heart apart.

sam had never seen colby this scared. their fear of being caught, the adrenaline they felt as they ran from cops just for a single youtube video, no, they'd never compare.

"this way to the front, sir." the remaining officer gently escorted sam to the front where he paid his bail and was returned his things.

once sam exited the station he quickly called everyone he could.

"jake, they're processing colby- he had fake ids on him and they posted his bail too high-" he recalled the moment time and time again.
