my friend wrote this

colby knew the moment he set foot into that apartment, everything was gonna go to hell.

it's been years since he last saw sam, the cursing of his words still echoed throughout his mind.

breathe, brock. breathe.

he stopped at the door. colby took a second to study the outside, noticing it was still eerily the same six years later.

he knocked, hesitantly, and immediately regretted it. he felt his heart stop, and as soon as he turned to leave, the door swung open.

sam golbach stood at his new slightly taller height, wearing a t-shirt and baggy sweatpants. he rubbed at his eyes as he tried to make out the man in front of him

"colby?"

colby froze.

"um... hey, sam. been a while, huh?" sam blinked the blurriness away.

"yeah, yeah it really has-"

"sam?" a female voice asked, peaking into colby's sight. "who is it?"

"oh, yeah. katrina, this is colby. colby, katrina." sam introduced them and the atmosphere shifted awkwardly.

"oh, you're the colby he always talks about!" she said, smiling. "it's a pleasure to meet you." colby shook her hand and pulled back.

"oh, um, you too."

"alright, i'm sorry for interrupting. i gotta get going anyway." katrina walked past colby and waved. "see you later, sam! nice to meet you colby!" the two waved at her as the elevator doors closed behind her.

"look, colby, i'm sorry."

"sorry for what?"

"for not contacting you. just because we broke up doesn't mean i don't see you as my best friend anymore." colby shook his head at sam's words.

"sam, i knew it was coming. don't blame yourself." colby tried to hold back his tears as the overwhelming loneliness crashed over him. sam noticed his distress and pulled him closer.

"what's wrong, colby?"

"seeing how happy we were just makes it hurt worse."
