i decided to do this one based around katrinas new music video "gone" if you haven't seen it GO RIGHT NOW

sam opened the cafe door for colby, smiling lovingly at his boyfriend. it was a late night and the stars were beautifully yet strikingly bright. sam and colby had decided to go on a small trip to a different town, climbing a high mountain with hands locked together. it was just them against the world.

"what do you want?" colby smiled, bumping his shoulder playfully against sam's. it earned him a chuckle.

"i definitely want a couple cookies - oh, and a white chocolate mocha." colby laughed at sam's eagerness for coffee and snacks.

"hi-" colby smiled at the barista, pulling his wallet from the back pocket of his ripped jeans before ordering what the two of them were craving. they hadn't bothered to look at the people surrounding them, only caught up in the time they spent together.

"it'll be fifteen dollars." the barista smiled at them as she took colby's twenty and gave him change.

"thank you." they both said in unison before laughing quietly and moving to the side to wait for their order.

the man in black clothing who had stood behind them approached the counter, shoving a bag on the counter and anxiously scanning the cafe.

sam leaned forward, placing his hands on colbys shoulder and pressing his lips against his soft brown hair. he heard a small whisper of, "i love you."

"i love you, too." he whispered back, smiling still. he loved colby so damn much.

"put the money in the bag!" the man yelled. sam and colby jumped at the sudden change of tone, sam quickly extending his arm to protect colby. "nobody move!"

multiple cries and panicked breaths filled the sudden silence. colby gripped onto sam's hand tightly, knowing this was one of their fears.

"sam.." colby whispered. sam held his breath, risking the odds of being shot as he turned to pull colby into his chest for protection. if someone were to get injured, he sure as hell didn't want it to be his boyfriend.

bang

sam froze as he tightened his hands on colbys biceps, staring blankly at the dark tiles of the floor. he felt a burning sensation his his chest and his fingers prickled with a feeling of numbness. he could only stare absentmindedly as colby slowly pulled away locked their eyes. he watched the panic unfold in colby's eyes and fuck, this was not the last thing he wanted to see.

colby watched the light fade away as sam began to stumble toward the ground with no control, only both their hands gripping at each others arms. why did he move?

sam watched his vision blur and the noise around him began to sound like white noise while as the same time it sounded like he was underwater. he only heard colby's panicking voice, trying to lure him back in but he couldn't fight the darkness. he didn't have the strength to even close his eyes.

"hey, hey- sam!" colby stumbled down with him, shaking sam's arms with urgency. "help! somebody help!" he watched the crimson string of blood slowly trail down sam's cheek and the pool of blood that began taunting him as it grew bigger, soaking sam's clothing and his own hands.

"why did he move?!" the man grabbed the bag before dashing for the door.

"sam! please, somebody help!" colby's cries ricocheted off the bare walls of the cafe. his tears blurred his vision, tangling his hands in sam's shirt, shaking him relentlessly. "please wake up!" he knew it was useless but he didn't want accept it. he didn't want the love of his life to be dead, he could barely even process the thought. sam couldn't be dead.

even weeks later he couldn't process the funeral. he couldn't process looking at dead boyfriend with unnaturally gray skin and closed eyes, he was hoping that he'd sit up and say it was one big joke, one big prank. he still held onto that hope even when the casket was lowered into the ground with the roses colby had picked out on top. he requested they glue them so they wouldn't detach during the burial.

years later, he still wasn't able to process staring at sam's tombstone. seeing his birth and death date. none of it was real, it couldn't be.
