“I’ll be right back,” I said as Harry and I walked back into our house.

“Don’t be too long,” he replied cheekily as he walked into the living room and I started up the stairs. I felt butterflies in my stomach as I opened the door to our bedroom and soundlessly closed it behind me. It was time to start getting ready.

I walked into my closet and found the candles I’d bought the other day in a bag near the back. I took the lighter out too and scattered them throughout the bedroom, lighting them after I finished. I dimmed the lights and nodded at the room I’d set up.

I walked into my closet again and picked up the second bag I had in the back corner. I pulled out my black lace corset and matching underwear that I’d bought the other day for the occasion. I also pulled out the black silk robe that I’d gotten to go along with the outfit.

It was Harry’s birthday. I had to make it somewhat worthwhile for him, and I didn’t think going out for dinner was going to make it much of a birthday to remember. I had to make this night special and I hoped this was the right way to make that happen. I didn’t even know if he liked this lingerie stuff anyways. Was I trying too hard? I hoped it didn’t look like it. I didn’t have time to worry about that though. I’d already been up here long enough for Harry to start wondering what I was doing. I quickly changed out of my dress and into the lingerie that I immediately felt awkward wearing. I zippered my boots on that Harry loved so much and draped the silk robe over my shoulders.

I took a deep breath, calming myself. It wasn’t like this was completely weird or anything. No, women all over the world wore this for their husbands. I wasn’t doing anything different. Besides, I wanted to give Harry a birthday to remember. This was hopefully going to be one of the most special nights that Harry and I have ever had.

I left my closet, convincing myself that this was normal, and went into the bathroom. I sprayed some perfume that I knew Harry liked and fixed my hair so that it fell loosely on my shoulders. I also applied a little bit of light pink lip gloss that I normally only wore on special occasions. It was time…

I slowly walked out of the bathroom and exited our bedroom. I made my way down the hallway, trying not trip in the robe. I caught myself once from falling and cursed at myself for thinking I was going to be good at this. I wasn’t as graceful as I hoped I’d be. “Come on Maya,” I mumbled to myself, running my hand through my hair. I slowly walked down the stairs and stopped at the bottom. Harry’s back was to me as I entered the family room silently. I walked up behind the chair he was sitting at and put my hands over his eyes.

“Close your eyes,” I tried whispering seductively in his ear, but it came out sounding weird. Great, I’m already messing up.

“They’re closed,” he said inhaling, a smile spreading across his lips.

“Keep them closed, don’t open them. Now take my hand,” I instructed. I walked around to his front.

I took his hand in mine and he stood up, “Maya, what is going on?” he asked, a smile still tugging at his lips.

“Just trust me,” I said quickly. Maybe a little too quickly.
