The song coming from the radio fills the silence in the car. Mom is staring straight ahead as she's driving while I'm sitting on the passenger seat staring at the window.
This car doesn't feel as nice when the owner of it isn't driving it , and I can see in mom's eyes that she is worried about her best friend even though she doesn't want to admit it.

The song slowly fades as the voice of the radio presenter grows louder
"Now that was a hit, it really hit my temporary heart" The guys laughs "But that was Temporary heart by PRETTYMUCH , such a great talents from the young boys. Hope to hear more music from them but unfortunately I have to leave you to your daily news so adios amigos..."
Mom reaches home and parks the car in our driveway behind her car.
She sighs and switches off the ignition.
"Mom he'll be fine"
"I'm not worried about that , I'm just worried about the risks he took"
My eyebrows furrows "What do you mean ?"
Mom sighs "Sandra , Brandon is in debt because of the ring he brought for Katheryn. He hasn't paid his rent for three months and his other expenses.
"How much was the ring ?"
She pauses for a bit "$15 000"
"$15 000 !?"
"Plus he spent $5000 on the lounge suite he booked when he thought Katheryn was going to say yes." Mom continues
"That in total makes $20 000, wow"
Mom gently taps on the steering wheel "I tried to warn him"
"Why would he spends so much money on her ?"
"He was blinded by love , we all were."
My chest slightly tighten. Even after seventeen years , her heart is still broken and at this point I don't think it will ever heal.
"Do you..." I swallow down the lump forming on my throat "Do you regret having me ?"
Mom looks to the floor of the car and runs both her hands through her hair while I wait for her answer in anticipation.
