Chapter  16 :  A sudden bond

"Yes mom I'm fine... yes mom I-..." She sighs,  "I know, I'm sorry I should have told you...yes I'm safe...okay bye."

After the traffic light turns green I drive pass a billboard that written :

Welcome to Mallory Bay
The home of the Tri state champions, the Marines football players.

Mallory Bay. I physically roll my eyes , they love to brag about everything.

"Mallory Bay ? Sounds like a nice place." ,She says looking out the window

"It's not" This place is full of humblebrags and meatheads who are obsessed with foatball

"Oh" , She backs away from the window ,"You've been here before ?"

"Twice"

"So why are we here ?"

"Pit stop. We're gonna find the nearest gym to shower then a gas station, I need to fill the car and buy food."

She doesn't respond, but looks out the window again. We reach a gym where the parking lot is almost empty.

"Okay we're gonna take a quick shower" ,I grab my back pack and she grabs her bag, "We'll meet here. Don't run off"

Her eyebrows creases, "Why would I do that ?"

"Fear"

"I'm not scared anymore. I promise I won't run off" , She says opening the door.

I walk out the door and walk inside the gym with Sandra walking behind me. We separate and I enter an  empty room full of showers where squeaking of my shoes against the tiled white floors is echoing. I place my bag on the basin  and unzip it to take out body spray , roll-on and underwear.

Clothes  ?

I'll just change the hoodie.

With the water lukewarm I walk under the shower head,  letting the droplets run down. After a few I apply lotion and  body spray , wear the same black ripped jeans , same dirty  adidas , same white tank top but a black jersey , unzipped, with my hood on.

I rake my hair to stick on my forehead since its still not dry. I walk out the door , bumping into a person who was about to walk in the showers , he quickly apologies and I make out the building to my car and surprisingly Sandra was done before me since she leaning on the car waiting for me.

Don't girls usually take longer to shower ?

"You know the car isn't locked right ?" , I say walking to the driver's seat.

"Oh I know , I was just waiting for you.", She says opening the passenger's and climbing  in as well as me. "Are you wearing the same clothes?"

"No. Black jersey"

"That's it ?"

I glare at her,  Is that a problem to you ?"
