Chapter 22 : No Fear
~Lucas
My eyes open as the harsh UV rays of the sun travel past my face. I grunt as I sit up straight after sleeping awkwardly in the driver seat.
We are still at the field but at least this time there are no unexpected visitors at my car, scaring Sandra. My eyes land on the bĺack leather notebook with a pen secured next to it, I take a quick glance at a sleeping Sandra, her loose ponytail seemingly trapped between her arms that are tucked under her head. She looks almost at peace.
I sigh, this guilt is killing me. I wish you said no when I asked you to come with me, I wish you told the truth about me pointing the gun at school at least then I would've been too busy been interrogated by cops to put your life endanger... It's the last thing I wanted to do.
I shake my head, silencing my conscience as I flip-open the book, the first page was already scribbled in black ink. Did she buy me a used book without knowing ? I continue flipping the pages to find the rest of the book is blank.
I'm about to read what was written in the first page when Sandra begins to grunt.
"Stupid sun, I'm trying to sleep", She mutters as she turns her face away from the window and turns to face me.
I let out a silent chuckle and without really thinking I tucked the strands of hair ,that were dangling off her face, behind her eye. My hand travels down to cup her cheek.
"Sandra, wake up" I say leaning towards her ear
She moans, "I don't want to, I'm tired"
"I know but we got to get going" The thumb now carelessly stroking her skin that's next to her nose, "Your skin is so soft"
A lazy smile forms on her lips, seeing she is enjoying my hand on her cheek. Her eyes slowly flutter open, revealing her light green eyes.
She is a sight for sore eyes.
"Lucas ?"
I smile without even realizing it, "Good Morning"
She quietly clears her throat, "Morning" She tries to reach for her glasses on the dashboard, but my hand beat her to it.
"I got it, here" I put her glasses on and couldn't help but notice the crimson colour that's tainting her cheeks.
"Thank you"
"No problem" My eyes never quite leaving hers yet, it took a while to snap out of the haze and sit properly in my seat.
"So what's on today's agenda, since we're near to our destination" She asks fixing her seat. I inject the key in the ignition as the car's engine roars to life.
"Get cleaned, get food , fill the car and just keep driving" I say, reversing out of the fields and onto the road.
"So the usual then ?"
"Yep, unless you have something in mind",I turn the car and drive on the lane.
"We could try... actually no nevermind"
" Tell me, I won't bite" I say, mocking her a bit
She laughs, "That's what the big bad wolf told an innocent girl before he ate her"
"Well she was dumb enough to not realize that 'grandma' was actually a wolf in disguise. In my opinions I think she deserves to die. Humanity has enough dumb people, we don't need anymore"
She gasps, "How could you say that, you're à monster I say a monster", She lightly slaps my arm.
"Hey", I chuckle, not really remember the last time I had a nice conversation with someone, "I'm driving here, but anyways you were suggesting ?"
