When Spinel opened her eyes she expected to be in danger, which made her jump up and punch at the air.
"Wowowow! Calm down!" A Pearl said standing beside the bed shouted, gently grabbing Spinel's arm. "You're safe now. You're out of harm's way."
Spinel sighed, laying back down on the bed. She was glad beds were now made on Homeworld after the Diamonds agreed on how comfy they were. Spinel rubbed her head trying to relax her headache. "Where am I?"
"You're in my Howlite's ship. We are bringing you to Ste- Pink Diamond," the pearl said with a worried smile.
Spinel cranked her neck, confused on why she called him Pink Diamond instead.
"Is she awake? Good. I do have many questions," a soft put powerful voice said in the distance. Spinel looked at her surrowings while trying to find the voice's owner. She was in a small plain whiteish tan room with a few hanging pictures, obviously from Earth, and a door. Whoever spoke was making her way down the hallway and was too big to fit through the doorway so she crouched down and poked her head in.
"The lovely Spinel. It is an honor to meet you," the random white gem said.
The pearl bowed. Spinel realized the Pearl belonged to the bigger gem. "Spinel, are you strong enough to walk?"
Spinel nodded, flinging her feet across the bed and lifting herself up. She walked to the doorway and next to the bigger gem. The ceiling in the hallway was much bigger, giving the gem room to stand. "I am Howlite. I have been waiting years to finally meet you and faith had finally fulfilled my wish. I think it is fascinating that a lower life form can rule like a Diamond."
Spinel gave a weak smile. "Thanks...?"
"Can I give you a tour of my ship? What would you like me to call you? My Spinel? The All Mighty Spinel?"
"I think Spinel will be just fine. I don't think you're in my court anyway so you don't need to over-do it," Spinel said putting her hands in the air. "Just- where exactly are we going?"
"I programmed the ship to head to Earth. My Pearl contacted Pink Diamond and told him we were bringing you. My Pearl said you were saying his name before you fainted?" Howlite asked.
Spinel shook her head. "I was calling for Steven-"
"Oh Spinel," Howlite let out a little chuckle. "Follow me, I need to talk to you."
Spinel got a nervous feeling in her gut. Something wasn't right with this Howlite gem. She seemed too happy to meet Spinel, since most gems hate her. But she followed behind anyway, she felt like she had nothing to loose.
After a long moment of silence Howlite broke it with a question. "I've heard all about your story. How Pink Diamond left you-"
"I don't like to talk about that."
"But just listen. Isn't it funny how the worst things happen to us and yet we are the bad guys?" Howlite asked, the tone in her voice not changing.
Spinel looked up at her. She looked a lot like White Diamond except her eyes were round and not covered in long thick lashes. She wore long white and black dress like a Sapphire her hair was confusing, it was shaped like a long V in the back... like one sort of odd pony tail.
"What are you talking about?" Spinel asked.
Howlite let out a quiet sigh. "I was once in your shoes. I was left behind by my crew mates. They saw me as small and weak. They tricked me to doing a small mission to give them time to hop in their ship and take off. I wish I wasn't so stupid then, but if I wasn't then I wouldn't be here today," Howlite pressed her hand against the wall. Suddenly bright white lights formed a large triangle around them on the wall and it opened like a door. "Come inside."
Spinel peeked inside before entering.
"I can tell Pink's little game still bothers you. Your hair aren't hearts anymore and your gem is still upside down. May I ask why? Why does it still even bother you that she did this? You are best friends with her now, correct?" Howlite asked.
"No! I'm best friends with Steven not Pink Diamond. I will never be her friend!" Spinel stomped her foot on the ground.
"You're right, you're right," Howlite barely agreed. "But after what she did to you... and after what you did to her... who is the bad guy?"
"She is of course!"
"To who?"
"To-" Spinel paused. No one exactly complained about Pink Diamond after they found out what she did to Spinel. Even though Spinel went through hell, the gems still saw her as the bad guy.
Howlite frowned. "No one. For some reason everybody still loves Pink Diamond. But not me. I totally agree with you, Spinel. I think you did nothing wrong, you just got angry and acted too quickly."
"Steven! Steven agrees with me!" Spinel spat out. "And he's not Pink Diamond, he's nothing like her."
Howlite rolled her eyes. "He is her! He is literally a copy of her in human-form."
"HOWLITE ENOUGH! I Don't know what game you're playing but it's not working. I know Steven isn't like Pink because if he was then he would have abandoned me. He wouldn't keep coming to Homeworld to talk to me he would completely ignore me. He isn't her because I don't love Pink Diamond."
Howlite took a deep breath, smiled, and then clapped her hands twice. The lights turned on, revealing a giant room full of different weapons, the same kind Spinel had to attack the Crystal Gems. "Do you know what this room is?"
Spinel looked around. Noticing the scythe she stole from this room was missing. She never realized this was the place. "I used to be in Pink Diamond's court. I was the one who handled all of her weapons, I wondered why she had so many and realized why during the war... well after we figured out she was Rose all along. Let me ask you something, do you think you've been attacked with one of these weapons once?"
Spinel was still looking around in awe. "Yes. Steven did when I was fighting him."
"Wrong."
Spinel turned around.
"Mant years ago Pink Diamond kept coming back and taking one of these weapons from me. I began to get concerned as to why since she seemed so joyful all the time. Why would Pink Diamond need to reset one of her own gems? One day I decided to follow her. And I saw you and her. I saw this one thousand and eight hundred times, Spinel. Everytime your back was turned she would use the weapon and cut you in half."
Spinel groaned. "Nono! It doesn't make any sense! Why are you lying?!"
"I'm not!" Howlite yelled back. "I would never lie to you! After what I've seen you go through and still stand strong and rule Homeworld- I cannot lie to you! I'm telling you this because I want you to be able to see the truth, Spinel. I want you to see Steven for who he truly is. Pink Diamond."
"He's not!"
"He is!"
"I know him more than you do!"
"And I knew Pink more than you! Do you know why she kept killing you? She hoped one day you'd finally fully reset. You'd change. She hoped killing you enough times would make your gem get confused and reset, then she would make you more serious to rule her colony with you."
"I... I was serious," Spinel felt tears in her eyes again. "I was just trying to make her happy!"
"And what are you doing for Steven?"
"SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE!" Spinel ran out of the room as fast as she could. She ran down the hallway and made so many turns she eventually got lost. She began to feel weak and fell to her knees, she needed to stop using so much energy, her gem was still cracked.
Spinel took a deep breath, whipping the tears from her eyes which didnt make her vision any better. She looked around and noticed she was in the control room, and right out the window was Earth. Spinel would be with Steven soon enough.
