Spinel and the unknown gem walled together in the forest alone. Neither of them talked, making Spinel feel a little uncomfortable.
After a day and a half of walking, Spinel finally said, "What are we doing?"
"Good things come to those who wait," the gem replied.
Spinel stretched herself out in front of the gem, blocking her path. "Look, I'm not going to follow some weird gem in a cloak around the forest to God knows where! Tell me what this thing is-" Spinel held the Crystal Ball up high. "-and where we are going!"
The gem took a deep breath. "I guess waiting all those years took your patience away? Fine, I'll tell you because I know you'll run off somewhere and die in the woods if I don't," the gem gently placed her index finger on the ball. "This is a Time Crystal. When White Diamond was the only Diamond ruling, she used it to go back in time and fix her mistakes so she could make Homeworld perfect. But she used it way too much and it like... rebooted. That's why Yellow and Blue exist, she made them so she could keep Homeworld perfect without this. I found it before I left Homeworld. I thought why not. I knew there was going to be a war, the Diamonds are too evil to not have one. Anyway... it can't be used near any organism on Earth, it'll kill them."
"So..." Spinel looked down at the ball. "What am I supposed to do with this?"
"Change your past! Duh! I know you won't make it out here with all of Homeworld hating you and all. I wanted to use the Time Crystal for the war, but I knew no matter what I wouldn't be able to fix it. So I just left the past as it was."
There was a long pause between the two.
"There's an open field a mile ahead. No animals or people should be there," The gem broke the silence. She continued walking, and Spinel followed by her side.
The walk was longer than Spinel wanted it to be. She kept thinking about her past, where it all began. The open field came in view, the grass covered in a thick white blanket of snow.
"Here we are," the gem said. "Do you know what time we're going to go to?"
"We're?"
"Hey I gave that to you! Of course I'm coming! I minus as well fix my past too," the gem said.
They both walked to the middle of the field where they both held the Time Crystal with two hands.
"I want to go back when Pink Diamond abandoned me," Spinel said immediately.
"Is it really what's messing up the present?" The gem asked. "So you go back 6,000 years. You know what Pink will do. But then what? What else will you do? She won't accept you, obiously, even if you become a Crystal Gem it'll be hard for a small Spinel to fight in the war."
"Fine!" Spinel snapped. "Nevermind, I think I know what day really messed everything up."
"Hmmm, what day?"
Suddenly the Time Crystal started glistening. "Wait wha- I didn't even-!"
In a flash, the two were standing in the hallway of Pink Diamond's palace.
"I didn't even say anything!" Spinel cried.
"The Time Crystal isn't voice activated. All you have to do is think of a time line really hard. I should have told you that..."
Spinel flinched when she heard loud footsteps approaching her. The gem gasped and hid somewhere out of their view.
"Spinel! There you are!" Blue Diamond said, getting on her knees to see her more clearly as White and Yellow stood beside her. "We have great news for you, dear!"
