"Holy shit, is that really you?" Avery placed the pasta bowl on the table in front of me before she threw herself onto the seat and scooted along so she could hug me.
"It sure is," I smiled, getting stuck in her tight embrace.
The night Avery came into the bar, the night she arranged the purchase of the establishment from Maria, we talked for hours. We hit it off so well, I could see myself slipping into a comfortable friendship with her but I knew she lived a few hours away from me so I didn't see the point in exchanging phone numbers. When she walked out of the bar that night, I never expected to lay eyes on her again.
"What are you doing here?" I inquired when she pulled away.
"I own this bar!" She gasped.
"No way," I shook my head in disbelief.
"Yes!" The smile she radiated was so genuine, it offered me a sense of relief that I would have an ally in this unfamiliar place. "I knew I should have gotten your phone number before I left that night."
"What are the chances I come into your bar and ask for a job?" The absurdity of the situation forced a laugh.
"See, it's fate!" Avery declared. "Let me grab a drink and then we can discuss your new job!"
"What! You can't just give me a job like that!" I protested.
"I can and I am. Be quiet and eat your food," she rose to her feet and left the booth, with my mouth agape and bits of pasta falling from my fork.
I was so hungry that I began to shovel the creamy mushroom pasta into my mouth eagerly awaiting her return. Then it dawned on me, how could she give me a job when Aidan said he was the owner? Was he her husband or strictly co-owner? Would he approve of it since he wanted me to come for an interview tomorrow? Then I recalled that Avery said she owned a chain of bars with her brother. This was even worse, the handsomely rugged man was her brother so he was completely off-limits.
"Sam said that you had asked Aidan if there were any jobs available," Avery arrived back a couple of minutes later and resituated beside me. "We have a job available and I know your previous work history was in a place just like ours so you have the experience we need. There's no problem, the job is yours if you want it."
"I can't thank you enough for this," my soft voice was low enough to hold back the tears of joy. "This has just solved one of my problems, at least."
"The way I see it, you're doing exactly the same job as before, now you're just in a different location," she took a sip of her drink. "Plus, I really hope we can get to know each other better," I nodded in agreement and stabbed my fork back into the food before we continued on with our chat and laughter.
I sat at my desk with Rowan's resume in front of me. This woman filled my mind from the moment I laid my eyes on her clumsy body. Of course, she was stunningly beautiful and I found myself greatly attracted to her but that wasn't just it. I had seen plenty of physically attractive women come in and out of this bar every night, some even manage to make my cock twitch but this woman was something else.
