"Oh, I'm so sorry!" She gasped with happiness riding off the end of her tongue.
We both looked up over the top of the duvet at Avery who was standing in the doorway with a massive grin on her face. As we untangled ourselves from each other I saw her take in my ruffled hair and the fact I was wearing Aidan's T-shirt, her face was beaming at the sight of us two in bed.
"I need to use the bathroom," I stated as I pulled back the covers and dashed over to the en-suite where I closed the door behind me without looking back.
Whilst I used the toilet I heard whispers coming from the bedroom and then there was silence within less than a minute. I wondered if Aidan had told Avery the truth about what was going on.
Once I finished up and washed my hands I peered around the bathroom door to see that we were alone again with the bedroom door now closed.
I sloped across the room and got back into bed when Aidan gave me a sympathetic smile. "What did you tell her?" I asked as we both laid on our sides with our gazes locked on to one another.
"I didn't tell her anything, I just said we would talk to her tonight and that I wouldn't be at work today. I asked her if you could borrow some of her clothes and she said to go take whatever you need."
"Okay," I nodded back. Aidan took his hand and gently rubbed it across my cheek eliciting a smile from me.
"How are you feeling today?" The high pitchness of his voice made the concern evident.
"Slight pain and I feel really tired," I yawned.
"You do look paler than usual," I watched Aidan's eyes narrow together as he spoke.
"Jeez, thanks," I retorted.
Aidan smiled at me as I took in his morning appearance; his dishevelled hair, and his naked chest made the metal of his nipple piercings catch the light from the sunrise which glistened with sexiness. I traced my hand over his tattoos until I got to the one of the fetus inside the womb wrapped in angel wings. My fingers lingered over it and I heard Aidan inhale sharply.
"I want to tell you but I can't yet," he choked on his words and my eyes snapped to his.
"Why are..." my eyes drifted over to the French doors that led out onto the balcony as I thought about how I wanted to phrase this.
"Why what?" Aidan took hold of my chin which caused my eyes to connect with his again.
"Why are you treating me like a girlfriend? Why are you taking care of me in such an intimate way..."
"Because..." Aidan sighed and rubbed his thumb over my lips, "the moment I saw you I felt this pull towards you, the moment I touched you I felt this spark and I know you did too. I like you and I respect you, so I will take this as slow as you want to but please let's give this a chance."
"I... I did feel that. It scares me that I want to give myself to you, I want to give you the world but realistically I don't know how much of myself I can give you. My life is a mess right now," my emotions caught in the back of my throat.
"I know you're scared. I am too, I'm scared of being hurt again but you give me hope, Rowan," I saw the sincerity in Aidan's eyes which made it incredibly hard to hold back my feelings from him.
I believed every word Aidan said, I looked in his eyes and I saw the fear. We have so much to talk about, so much to share but he made me feel like none of that mattered right now, he made me feel like we have all the time in the world with each other.
"I'm tired," I yawned.
"Then let's go back to sleep, we can go at our own pace today," Aidan sweetly replied as he rolled onto his back and took me with him. I rested my head down onto his bare, smooth chest, whilst his arms wrapped around me.
