I knock on mom's apartment door, about a year ago I did this to visit Marcus. I just turned fourteen the last time I knocked, and now here I am fifteen and three months, knocking at the same door.
"Why isn't she answering?" I ask Marcus.
"Marvina? You think I know?" he stares at me like I'm crazy.
"I thought you were supposed to be the brainiac!" I yell.
"Marvina! Don't yell at me!" he yells back.
"Don't yell at me you as-" the door shoots down before I can regret my words.
"You need to control your anger more." He mumbles under his breath.
I refuse to say anything and walk with him into the dark apartment.
"Mom?" my voice cracks.
"What happened in here?" Marcus picks up a broken lamps and dusts his hands off.
Everything is broken in here, every last thing.
"Do you think someone broke in?" I suggest even though I know the truth.
"Marvina? Do you think we're really done here?" Marcus whispers.
"I don't think so-" before I can finish a screechy voice interrupts from behind me.
"It's just begun, my dears." someone snickers.
