I slide my dagger out of its hold and turn around instantly with my weapon ready. Marcus does the same with his sword. A man stands in the doorway in black robes, his skin pale and his eyes a pale gray, almost white.
"Who. Are. You." I demand.
"You don't remember me?" he frowns, "That is a shame. You'd think you'd remember your own uncle." he smiles again.
"We don't have any uncles, or aunts." Marcus grumbles.
"Well, that hurts. You'd think you're mother would talk about her own brother, do I really embarrass her with my gift?" he sarcastically sighs.
"What's your gift?" I ask curiously.
"Why, invisibility, of course." he smiles and disappears.
"Stop playing around and face us you coward!" Marcus screams.
"Use your gifts, you bloody idiots. I want to play." he mocks.
I sigh. I haven't mastered my gift, I don't even know what it is, what if it isn't even a gift? What if it's a curse? I feel my senses kick in, my gift. I squint around the room and see him by the kitchen door, I throw my dagger at him but it clatters to the ground and he's gone.
"I think he's gone for good." I sigh.
"Do you think he took mom?" Marcus stares at the wall.
"Marcus, I don't know but probably." I pull my hair back and scream.
I just wanted answers, and I don't get them. My life is a curse. Everything and everyone I love always leaves me. I can't loose Marcus, yet I'm afraid I will.
"Come on, Marcus. Let's just go, we'll figure something out." I start walking to the door.
"Are you going to just give up like that?" he crosses his arms, "We need to find mom. And maybe we can find Parker."
"Don't you get it?" I start crying, "He's dead! He's dead and it's all my fault." I storm out the door, back to the Academy.
