I hear a soft whisper of a voice as I wake up and notice it's Parker sitting next to me. I check my surroundings and notice I'm in a cave, but I'm only with Parker. There's no sign or Meg or Marcus.
"Parker? Where's-"
"They're looking for a nearby town and some food," he interrupts me.
I sit up but regret it immediately because a pain goes through my head and chest.
"Easy there," he steadies me with his firm hand on my back and in the moment we look in each other's eyes, examining each other.
He sits a little closer to me and whispers, "We haven't had any alone time in awhile don't you think?" he smiles.
"Not really," I whisper back and smile.
He kisses me gently, I've missed his kisses these pass couple of days. I didn't know how much until now. It reminds me that he's truly here and it isn't just my mind playing a trick on me, I pull away and smile.
"I'm tired, I might go back to bed,"
"I'll keep you safe," he kisses my forehead and I roll over on my side and he pulls the blanket on to me again. Before I can fall asleep I hear a loud drop of a bag and screaming. I sit up seeing Meg and Marcus yelling at each other.
"What's the matter?" I ask.
"None of your business." Meg snarls.
"Meg I can't believe you didn't tell us!" Marcus yells at her.
"I DIDN'T KNOW! HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW HE WAS TRACKING ME ALL ALONG!"
Marcus doesn't yell back at her and instead hugs her. I'm taken aback a bit because first of all they were just arguing and second of all they barely know each other. I turn away because it's awkward for me and just look at Parker, I can see him laughing and he probably is because he knows what I'm thinking.
"So are you going to let us know what happened?" Parker asks.
"Well, we had a little encounter with a spirit and apparently Max is tracking us." Marcus explains.
"That's not good," I state the obvious to break silence.
"No, so on the other hand," Marcus continues, "Parker do you want to help me get some more supplies since Meg and I were interrupted?"
"Sure," Parker gets up and before he leaves he kisses me on the cheek.
I blush as he leaves since my brother and cousin were with me. When they leave I'm left with Meg. She plays with a wrapped arrow ring on her finger.
"What's that?" I ask curiously.
"This? My dad gave it to me when I was younger. He said as long as I wore it my powers would be controlled and he'd always be with me." she smiles softly.
"Don't you hate him?" I ask.
"He's still my father, isn't he?" she looks up and I see the look in her eyes. It's the look that tells me that she's still human and that she will love her father even if he is evil. It's the same look I gave Parker long ago and I understand her.
"Yes, and you should love him." I smile.
I sit there watching her and then think of things I've been noticing with her, the way she acts around Marcus.
"Can I ask you something?" I ask her.
"I guess," she shrugs.
"Do you like Marcus?"
"W-What do you mean? He's my cousin so yeah." her face starts to red a little.
"No, I mean do you LIKE him in a special way." I can't help but grin.
"Please don't tell anyone, I'm sorry. I didn't want anyone to know because you know he's my cousin." she doesn't look at me.
"I personally think it's cute. It's not that weird because people would marry their cousins all the time long ago but I'll keep it between you and me."
"I know it's hopeless you don't need to lie."
"He does have a girlfriend back home," I say softly, "but that doesn't mean you have to stop liking him. The worst kind of love is when the person you love doesn't love you back."
"How would you know that if you're in a happy relationship?"
"I've dealt with it before, and trust me it sucks but if you keep it to yourself it'll be alright." I smile softly.
"Thanks Marvina, I wouldn't have guessed you knew anything about it."
Before I can respond I hear Marcus and Parker coming back so I just poke at the fire with a stick like we didn't have a conversation at all.
