We arrive at the academy the next day, I kiss Parker goodbye and tell him I'll see him later that day to start planning on Max. Marcus wishes me good luck and I kiss him friendly on his cheek and walk through the old academy doors. I'm afraid of telling Liam where I was and that I'm ending it with him but I don't feel anything anymore, I didn't feel anything for a long time, not the same spark we had a week in when I was new to the academy. Things change, it's how life is. I take deep breaths as the elevator doors open and Liam is already there and he smiles at me. I walk out, shaking like a scared dog and we hug each other before he speaks.
"Where were you? You were gone for a long time, I was getting worried." he frowns.
"Listen, before we talk about where I was, w-we need to talk-" I'm interrupted before I can begin. A loud crash comes from behind me, we look out the window to the courtyard to find that it's in flames, and right there in the center is Uncle Max.
"We gotta go help!" he screams.
"But-" I begin.
"We can talk later, Mar," he promises.
We race outside to the courtyard and I see Marcus and Ginnifer, but no sign of Parker. Marcus probably told him to wait inside, I would too, there'd be too much going on at once if he showed up when everyone thought he was dead.
Uncle Max grins at the four of us before he speaks, "My dearest Marvina, you've grown up so much. You too, Marcus. I'd love to see how you fight in a group, fortis children."
"Shut up and get on with it!" Marcus yells.
"Don't sass me child!" he yells,"I am your uncle and soon-to-be-ruler! You need to show some respect." Max stomps on the ground and I lose my balance and hold onto the ground as I catch glimpses of the battle. I try to get up but a pain sears through my ankle and makes me yelp. I see Liam turn his head and sees I'm injured, before he can come help me he gasps for breath. A spear appears through his stomach and he drops to the ground. The ground stops rumbling and Max has left too. I crawl over to Liam and hear a door slam open behind me, I hear Ginnifer scream Parker? and Parker say Not now.
Liam stares at me and takes heavy breaths as he gasps for air,
"M-Marvina?" he asks.
"It's me, it's me." I reassure.
"Before I l-l-leave you, I have to tell you one last time, I love y-you," he coughs.
As his eyes close I can feel Parker touch my shoulder and hugs me gently from behind. I hold in any tears from falling as Liam's breaths stop and I know his heart did too, I remember something Drake told me long ago "A life for a life," I shut my eyes tightly close and squeeze Parker's arm grabbing me. I listen to the conversation behind me,
"Parker? Where did you come from? And Liam? Is he really gone?" her tone changes from mad to sad in seconds.
"Marcus and Marvina figured out how to revive me, and Liam's gone for good, I'm sorry to tell you all that," he mumbles away from me so I can't hear, that's the last thing I remember before passing out.
