Anniversary

After two weeks Katia returned to Melbourne. Ruby and I were both sad to say goodbye, during those two weeks I had really gotten to know Ruby's Mum and the wonderful woman that she was.

Ruby and I were planning a trip to both Australia and New Zealand for our one year anniversary and I was so excited at the thought of seeing my family again. Although we kept in touch, it wasn't quite the same as seeing them almost every week and I missed them terribly.

My job at the studio was going great and I couldn't have been happier. It's like suddenly everything in my life was just falling into place. It's was all perfect.

Almost 6 months went by and we were off on our holiday. We spent a week in Australia with Katia and I had a lot of fun checking out all the sites with my beautiful girlfriend as my tour guide. After that we headed to New Zealand. My parents had offered to pick us up from the airport and give us a place to stay but Ruby had already booked a rental car so that we could trip around at our leisure. She also said that she had organised a place for us to stay which she seemed very excited about. As we pull up to the hotel I quickly realise why Ruby had been so happy about the arrangement she had made.

"Babe... this is the hotel that we spent our first night together" I gush. She really was the sweetest.

"Best weekend of my life" she grins happily.

"You're so adorable" I smile as I press a kiss to her lips.

We check in and head up to the room, and as we walk through the door it's like de ja vu.

"No fucking way!" I gasp.

"Yes fucking way" Ruby smiles.

"You booked the exact same room?"

"Sure did Baby".

"God I love the fuck outta you Ruby" I smile as I wrap my arms around her.

The first twenty four hours of our stay is spent reliving that night almost a year ago as we make love on damn near every surface of that room.

The following day we catch up with my parents and my big brother Andy. I tell them all about my job and our life together in LA, and the looks on their faces is everything. They couldn't be more proud and I feel so lucky to have such a supportive family.

Ruby and my Dad get along so well, and I always wondered whether he would be sad missing out on the opportunity for a son in law. But I think he will have something even better with Ruby. I cannot wait to make this woman my wife.

A couple of days later on our official one year anniversary I take Ruby to a place that is very special to me. Heading up through a beautiful native bush walk we make our way to the Mount Victoria lookout. The view is absolutely beautiful.

"Wow... I see why you like it up here Baby" Ruby smiles as she wraps her arms around me from behind and rests her chin on my shoulder.

"I spent so much time up here when I was questioning my sexuality. Trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted. There was just something about this place that I found so calming" I tell my girl.

"Its beautiful. Almost as beautiful as you" she grins.

"Sweet talker" I laugh.

"C'mon... we gotta take a selfie" she says as she pulls out her phone and we take multiple photos together. "Alright hold up... I wanna get one with the view in the background. I'm gonna put it on a timer" Ruby says as she sits her phone on a nearby picnic table, propping it up against our backpack. Checking to make sure the angle is right she gets it all set up.

Meanwhile the small metal object that is burning a hole in my pocket springs to mind, and I wonder if this is the moment that I have been waiting for. Do I ask her now? It seems like the perfect time. The idea of it both terrifies and excites me. My palms are sweating already and my heart hammers in my chest.

"Okay... here we go" Ruby says as she makes her way back over to me. I open my arms ready to embrace her but instead she drops down on one knee before me, and with the sweetest smile on her face she presents a beautiful silver and diamond ring.

My hands go to my mouth as I try to stop myself from crying. I'm grinning like mad and I can't believe what is happening right now. I was ready to propose to my girl and here she is proposing to me!

"Maya Jane Tanner... Will you do me the honour of being my wife?" Ruby asks with a huge smile.

With the biggest smile on my face I start to chuckle as I fumble around in my pocket before dropping down on one knee to meet her. "Only if you'll do me the honour of becoming my wife" I giggle as I present her with the ring that I have been carrying around for nearly two weeks, just waiting for that perfect moment.

We both giggle as we wrap eachother up in a tight embrace. "Of course I'll marry you" I smile before kissing her deeply. We exchange rings and multiple more kisses before I remember that we were supposed to be taking a photo.

"Did you...?" I ask, not needing to finish the sentence because I pretty sure I already know the answer.

"Its recording" Ruby smiles. "I wanted to capture this moment forever. And it was even better than I hoped for" she grins as she fetches her phone and stops it recording.

"I had no idea that you were planning on asking me" Ruby smiles.

"Its been on my mind for a while. I even asked your Mum for her blessing six months ago!" I laugh.

"Aww baby.... you are just the cutest! You wanna know something..."

"What's that?"

"I asked your Dad for his blessing too" she smiles.

"Roobs... that's so sweet. What did he say?"

"Welcome to the family" she grins.

"God I love my Dad. And I love you too Babe. So fucking much. I can't wait for the day I can call you my wife. But for now, I will take great pleasure in calling you my fiance" I smile.
