Lower Elements
Holly was standing behind a group of shackled goblins. They had been especially rowdy lately. Holly was their arresting officer. She gave an offending goblin a sharp buzz with her buzz-baton. The goblin jumped, then he hissed, licking his eyeballs. Holly approached the officer that was to take over the goblins.
"Are you the one who's going to take care of this bunch?"
"Yep. I'll take em' from here."
"Good. You know what to do?"
"Yep. Don't worry, Captain, they're in good hands!"
He was a new officer, over-eager to please his superiors. Holly rolled her eyes. She had no tolerance for new recruits. It might just be because she has little to no patience, or that the officers really were annoying. There was really no way to tell.
"Thanks." Holly said curtly to the officer.
With that, she turned and left the goblins with the officer. Having completed her task, she returned to LEP headquarters. There, she found Commander Root waiting for her.
"We got an update on the rogue fairy." Root said. "Let's go."
Holly followed. This was looking very familiar, but hopefully this time it would be good news. Once again, there were officers milling around the room. This time though, there were no pictures on the screen. Foaly was already standing in front of the room. Uh-oh, Holly thought. Foaly doesen't exactly look like he's gonna deliver any good news.
"Okay." Foaly said getting everyone's attention. "We sent up an officer to see if they could get any evidence of the creature. We found a tiny strand of hair, which we ran through a DNA scanner. No results came up, but when I cracked its genetic code, it was part pixie and part troll." Foaly said all this quickly, hating to be the bearer of bad news.
"So let me get this straight." Root said slowly. "This is a troll-pixie hybrid?"
"Well, yes." Foaly said uncertainly. "I believe so."
"Alright. Any new location on it?" Root asked, surprisingly calm.
"Nope, it disappeared after it went by my camera. Haven't seen it since." Foaly replied.
"Thank's for nothing. Anyways, everyone go back to what you were doing. Root said dismissively. "Except for Captain Short and Major Kelp."
"Yes sir?" Holly asked.
"I want you two to get the whole story from Foaly. Once you know everything, you two should get suited up for an above-ground recon." Root said.
"You two come with me." Foaly said, leading them into Operations Booth.
Why is it always Trouble and I, Holly wondered. Whatever.
