The present, outside Tara, Ireland
Lana fell backward on the couch, fast asleep. It must have worked, Butler thought. He got up and checked Lana's pulse. She's fine. Now we just have to wait for her to wake up.
"Welcome back to 2014." Artemis announced.
"God, you're so dramatic."
Artemis grinned. "It's all part of the time travel experience."
"I never thought I would hear that."
"Well, most people don't."
"That's true. Now to business." Jade said, sitting down behind the desk. They had landed in the exact spot they had left. Artemis took his seat in front if the desk.
"Artemis, I still don't really believe you. You just told me about fairies and magic. I find this rather difficult to accept. You also said that you were going to fix my mother, and I don't understand how you could've accomplished that. Can you please explain all this?"
"Yes, I can. When the pixie was speaking and the magic was coming from her hand, she was casting a spell. I interrupted her so she never got to finish the spell. I have experience with fairies. They aren't what you would expect, based on story descriptions. Whether you decide to believe me or not, it is the truth. Magic is not some trick a person does with cards. It is a powerful thing, Jade. Something you should not mess with. That green light; if I wouldn't have created a force field, I would be dead. Once again, this is a matter of trust. To really decide if you believe me, let's go downstairs and see your mother."
"Alright." Jade said. For some unexplainable reason, she already believed the boy. They trekked down two flights of steps to get to the living room.
Lana was sitting on the couch, in a comfortable position. She looked years younger, and completely rested. Albeit a bit confused.
"Hello, darling." Lana said, as if nothing had ever happened.
"Hello, mother." Jade replied cautiously.
"Where have you been? And who is this man sitting in our living room?" It was then that Lana noticed Artemis. "Are you a friend of Jade's?" she asked.
Artemis stepped forward. "Yes, m'am. I am Artemis Fowl. And he is my butler, Butler." he gestured towards Butler.
"It's nice to meet you both. How come I haven't met you before?"
Jade looked over at Artemis. "Jade and I just met." Artemis lied.
"Oh, how nice. Where might you two have crossed paths? By the way, I'm Lana."
"We met at a museum." Jade lied. "Artemis and I were both looking at a piece. We realized through a short conversation that we were both interested in art. We decided we should get together sometimes to discuss artists and paintings."
"That's nice. It's always good to know someone that had the same interests as you."
"I need to get Artemis home, m'am." Butler interrupted. "I'd like to let him stay and chat, but his parents want him home for lunch."
"Of course. It was nice to meet you. Jade, escort your friends to the door."
"Yes, mother." Jade led them down the hallway to the door. Artemis came close to her and whispered to her.
"There's a few more things I need to tell you. Please contact me." he said, slipping a piece of paper into her hand. He walked to the door, where Butler held it open for him. "Goodbye, Jade." Artemis said as he disappeared through the doorway.
Jade leaned against a wall. I must be dreaming. This did not really happen, she thought. Magic? Fairies? That was impossible. Or was it?
