Outside of Tara, Ireland
I must have been dreaming. Fairies, magic, and time travel. Impossible. I'm going to wake up any second now. Jade was had been leaning against the wall. Now, she sank to the floor, sitting with her back against the wall.
"Have they left yet, dear?" Lana called from the living room.
"Yes, mother. They're gone." Oh my god. My life's never going to be the same. Now I have a mother and millions of questions to find answers to.
"Well come in here, then. I want you to tell me more about Artemis."
"Yes, mother. Just a second."
"Oh, and another thing; please don't call me mother. That sounds much too formal. Call me mom, like a normal child."
"Yes... mom." Jade said, pushing herself off the ground. The world spun around her, forcing her to lean against the wall for support. It was then that she realized everything that had happened. It hit her like punch to the gut, causing her knees to buckle beneath her. She squeezed her eyes shut, counting to five. Once she regained her composure, she stood up walked into the living room. Her mother smiled at her.
"There you are, dear. It was very nice to meet your friend Artemis. He seemed like a very nice young man."
"Yes, he's very nice. I'm glad you got to meet him."
"Definitely. Did you have a good time?"
"Yes, we talked about Matisse. A very controversial subject, as it seems."
Lana smiled. "That's nice." She had absolutely no idea what her daughter was talking about. Lana looked at the clock on the the table. "It's almost noon. Would you like me to prepare lunch for you?"
"Uhh... sure. That would be great." Jade wasn't used to being cooked for.
"What would you like?"
"You can surprise me." Jade replied, unsure of what else to say. "I'm going to my room. Can you call when it's ready?"
"Of course." Jade hiked up the stairs, slipping into her bedroom. She powered up her laptop, taking the slip of paper from her pocket.
It was folded exactly six times, creating a small square. It was creased perfectly, the edges perfectly aligned. The handwriting was neat. It seemed like he was used to writing differently, but had decided on print. The handwriting was actually rather alluring. It was peculiar, but strangely beautiful. Jade could tell that he wrote calligraphy. The document contained a letter and instructions.
Jade,
I know you will have many more questions, and I assure you that I will them answer to the best the best of my ability. I ask that you not tell anybody about our adventure, as that would be disastrous. I do not ask this only for myself.
I know this will all be a shock to you. I myself experienced something very similar when I was twelve. Don't worry, things will be normal very soon.
I commend your bravery and intelligence. When we had traveled back in time, you did not once hesitate. Which, especially being a common citizen, is quite impressive. Coming from me, might I add, means something.
-Artemis
Jade fumed. The insolent little snob. How dare he say things like that to me? He's the imbecile. She read on, hoping to find something else to yell at him about. Well, maybe not yell. She decided on sending a scathing email. After all, he had foolishly included his email address. Now he would have to face her wrath.
Artemis,
You obviously have never been taught your manners. Although what you have accomplished is extraordinary, you have no right to act in such a horrendous way. Especially to me, might I add. Remember, you don't know what you're dealing with.
You promised to answer questions to 'the best of your ability,' so here are my questions.
First of all, I remember you from the crazy incident a week ago. I know that what you told me was completely fake. I mean, honestly? Your excuse was pathetic. Based on that, I find it hard to believe you're as smart as you now appear. I would like to know exactly what was happening. Do not try to fool me again.
I am under the impression that you are either mad or you know things no one else does, or should know. Fairies, magic, time travel. All very heavily debated topics. You appear to have found the answer to all of these. If you did, why hasn't the media exploded? Have you kept everything you have uncovered completely secret? This will require clarification.
Now, based on that, my third point. Why would you choose to 'help' and include me in your schemes? This makes no sense, especially since you clearly stated that I was merely a common citizen. Why me?
Lastly, I am concerned about your extensive knowledge into my personal life. Not many people know about my past. Actually, nobody does. I have made sure to cover all my family's tracks. How you managed to gain insight into us is beyond me. Would you care to explain?
I would prefer you reply soon. If you don't, I have skills, as well.
-Jade
Jade read over her email to check for mistakes. Without hesitation, she pressed the send button. We'll see who comes out on top, Fowl.
