Artemis Fowl: A Call for Help

Chapter 19

Outside of Tara, Ireland
Holly fired a shot at the creature. Hitting it, of course.
"Let's move." Holly commanded, sprinting towards the girl.
The rest of the group followed, wishing they could just go home. Secretly, Holly wanted to leave too. But Commander Root had told her that it is not about what is best for you, it is about what is best for the People.
So she pressed on, intent on finishing her task. She couldn't have pictures of this thing wind all over the internet. This was going to be tricky, explaining to the girl who they were and what they were doing.
"Hey Artemis?" Holly asked.
"Yes?" he replied.
"Can you do the talking?" Holly asked.
"Sure."
"Thanks. Just try not to tell her too much about us. We're probably going to have to mind wipe her, as it is." Holly said.
"Of course. I won't tell her anything unnecessary." Artemis agreed.
By then, they had nearly reached the girl. She was sitting with her legs crossed, staring at the creature.
"You two should shield." Artemis said. "I can handle this."
Holly and Trouble dissappeared. Trouble switched on his helmet microphone, giving him a link to Holly. Foaly couldn't hear this particular conversation.
"Do you really trust him?" he asked.
"Yes. Of course I do. He's been a friend to the People for years. If he had any intention of blackmailing us, he would've done it already." Holly replied.
"Alright. I trust your judgement." Trouble said, reluctance showing on his face.
Artemis had reached the girl and was talking to her. Butler was standing closely behind him.
"I am very sorry about that Miss." Artemis said. "I am a member of a secret organization that fights illegal experiments on animals. This creature was subject to one of those experiments. I have tracked it from Dublin, and am here to retrieve it."
"You're kidding, right?" Jade asked. "What is this thing?"
"Well, this one was subject to a DNA experiment. Basically, they used some sort of dog and gorilla DNA to create that." Artemis said, gesturing to the creature.
"So they took a really hairy dog and a vicious gorilla and made this appalling thing. Why would someone want to do that?" Jade asked.
"I honestly do not know." Artemis replied. "That is what I am trying to figure out."
"Great. So you're just going to take this thing with you and leave me be?" Jade asked.
"Yes, basically. I am very sorry that this thing attacked you. And that we trespassed on your property." Artemis said.
"I don't care, as long as you get rid of that thing and don't steal anything." Jade said, shrugging.
"Good. I will gather everything and leave you be. Once again, I am sorry if this inconvenienced you." Artemis said.
"Just hurry up and leave." Jade said impatiently. She turned on her heel and left. She went in the house and shut the door behind her.
Holly unshielded, and began laughing.
"A secret organization that fights illegal experiments on animals?" Holly asked. "That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. And I thought you were a genius!"
"Hey," Artemis said defensively. "I got us out of it without saying anything about the People. You should be grateful."
"Good point. Thank you." Holly conceded. "Let's get Opal and leave. How are we gonna get the creature back with us?" Holly asked, turning to Trouble.
"Probably just put it in the shuttle with us, same as Opal." Trouble answered.
"Good enough." Holly said.
"We will be leaving too. If you need assistance with anything, we would be glad to help." Artemis said.
"We're good, but thank you for offering." Holly said.
"We will see you soon then." Artemis said.
"Yep." Holly said.
"See you later, Holly." Butler said.
"Bye, Butler." Holly said, flying up to his height and hugging him.
"Goodbye, Holly." Artemis said.
Holly flew back down. "Goodbye, Artemis." she said, hugging him. Holly kissed him on the cheek and then went and stood next to Trouble.
"Bye." Trouble grunted, when Holly elbowed him in the ribs.
"Goodbye, Trouble." came the amused reply.
Artemis an Butler walked back to the drive. Artemis slipped into the passenger seat of their Bentley. He waved through the window at Holly as they drove away.
Holly and Trouble lifted the creature together. They carried back to their base. They retrieved Opal and all their gear. They put restraints on the creature, ensuring there was not going to be any more problems. They loaded the shuttle they had flew up in.
They took off, Holly piloting the plane and Trouble gaurding the prisoners. It took a few minutes to get back to Police Plaza.
Maybe I can have a few quiet minutes to regroup, Holly thought.
