Chapter Twenty
N I A L L
My breathing hitched as my eyes followed my body, my old body. I couldn’t take in all that was happening around me but all I knew was that I felt confused, not even remembering any of this. It’s like someone stole my identity, and I’m watching them fuck me up and make me do things I would never do. It made my blood boil.
Lilly took my hand from my side, rubbing her thumb over my knuckles to calm me. I looked down at her for a split second, my eyes softening as I looked at her dim yellow ones. They were always so unique, always so captivating to me and everyone around her. She stopped wearing the contacts a while ago, even being photographed by paparazzi as she walked casually down the street. She was breathtaking.
I looked back over at the scene, watching it play out in front of me.
“That’s Drake, in his normal form,” Lilly reminded me, so I knew that that wasn’t really me. I helped, only a little.
“Where shall we dine tonight, my love,” Drake asked casually as he held out his arm, wrapping Lilly’s around his. He tucked it by his side, his other hand covering hers.
“I don’t know,’ Lilly answered with the same amount of enthusiasm. “I heard The Star of Erin Music Hall is having a show tonight; Austin Philips is performing tonight.”
“I’m gathering that a lot of people will be there tonight. An endless buffet!” He threw his head back in laughter, Lilly joining him as she snuggled closer to his side. My stomach churned and Lilly stiffened beside me.
“So wait,” I questioned, taking my attention off of them and putting it fully on the Lilly beside me. “You ate those people?” I was afraid of the answer, holding my breath for the answer I wasn’t ready for.
“We didn’t eat them. We drank from them.”
My vision got blurry and I started to panic. I turned back to the scene, watching as they laughed it off as if it was nothing. I closed my eyes, hearing the screams in my head replay over and over as they killed people, drank their blood for fuck’s sake. So what, they were vampires? Is that what she’s trying to tell me?
“Not exactly,” she answered as she read my mind, my body not feeling the pull of her powers anymore. I opened my eyes and we were back in the forest, hearing Andy sleep in the background. How long were we watching this?
“What do you mean,” I asked her, finally looking at her. She knew I was hurting; she tried looking away from me as I looked at her, my eyes begging for answers. Maybe she wasn’t who I thought she was.
“We learned to survive without it. That blood, it’s a substitute. We don’t kill humans. That’s the only difference between Vampires and Immortals. So what Cauious is planning, I don’t know. But he’s making them to take over the humans, to kill them all. Someone pissed him off, and we need to find out who.”
“How do you know all this? How did you piece this all together?”
She sighed, looking down and started playing with her fingers. “That was Drakes plan, a few years after that I just showed you. His nephew was human- like I told you, Drake was much older than me- and he pissed him off somehow. When Drake found him, he was much older and more mature than Drake was, so he was more of a guardian than a distant nephew. At least that’s what the town thought of them.
