Song Fic (Very Cringy as all good song fics are)

I won't lie to you
I know she's just not right for you

You huffed as you walked through the garden.  It had been three weeks since Cedric met that beautiful sorceress at the ball. She was beautiful; tall and slender, with hair as red as a poppies flower. She had complimented Cedric on his magic, and now he was completely enamored with the chick. You had lost count of the many times you had walked into his study only to see him working on a new spell to woo her with, or sitting at his desk, daydreaming with a stupid look on his face. As someone who did the same thing over him for years, it was infuriating to watch.

And you can tell me if I'm off
But I see it on your face
When you say that he's the one that you want
And you're spending all your time
In this wrong situation
And anytime you want it to stop

The part you hated most was the fact that this beautiful sorceress wanted nothing to do with Cedric himself. It was clear to all but Cedric that she was after nothing more then the prestige that came with dating the Royal Sorcerer, despite Cedric's incompetent reputation. She treated him like a accessory, or a pet; something that is supposed to be seen and not heard. Cedric was too caught up in infatuation to notice this, and adhered to all her absurd requests and demands.

"He even dyed his beautiful black hair blue for her," you grumbled quietly."ThE ColOrs ArE ComPliMentAry CeDriC. YoU WoN't looK LiKe a BluEbeRry CeDric." Your eyes rolled as you recalled this "Sensible" argument.  "I thought he looked good as himself..."

I know I can treat you better
Than she can
And any guy like you deserves the very best
Tell me why are we wasting time
On all your wasted cryin'
When you should be with me instead
I know I can treat you better
Better than she can

"Cedric I though I told you to buy me the crystal shoes, not the glass ones."

Your ears perk up at the sound of  familiar, annoying voice. You peak around a hedge only to see the Beauty herself, looking down on Cedric with a crestfallen look on her face. Your favorite Sorcerer was looking much more run down then he normally did, and he was holding the most beautiful pair of glass slippers that you have ever seen.

"B-but sweetheart, these were best ones I could afford. I even added a special  charm to make them more comfortable to wea-"

"Yes yes I'm sure you put a lot of thought into this its just..." The beauty shrunk back, covering her face with her hands. "Glass shoes b-break so easily, a-and it might cut my foot and leave me crippled, " Tears started to roll down her cheeks as she continued. "I wont be able to walk and people are going to blame you for giving me those shoes. I don't want that to happen to you."

Cedric looked absolutely distraught, and you clenched your fist tightly.  The she-wolf clearly just wanted more expensive shoes, and here she was playing the hero. You continued to angerly watch from the  sidelines; last time you stepped into one of their littler "conversations" Cedric got so mad at you that he wouldn't speak to you for three days. It was heartbreaking.

I'll stop time for you
The second you say you'd like me to
I just wanna give you the loving that you're missing
Baby, just to wake up with you
Would be everything I need and this could be so different
Tell me what you want to do

You watched helplessly as Cedric tried in vain to console her, only to be pushed away, as she cried harder. The sound of his pleading and bargaining broke your heart into tiny pieces.  Your best friend and the one you held the most dear, was being mentally and financially destroyed in front of your eyes and there was nothing you could do to stop it. You wanted nothing more then to take that manipulative witch by her hair and throw her down a staircase full of nails. You would, if only Cedric would give you the word. But you love Cedric too much to go against what he wants. Still. Come on.

I know I can treat you better
Than she can
And any guy like you deserves the very best
Tell me why are we wasting time
On all your wasted cryin'
When you should be with me instead
I know I can treat you better
Better than she can

The spat ended the way it normally does, Cedric promising to make things up to her and her showering him in praise and affection, crocodile tears disappearing as soon as she was getting what she wanted. She sashayed away after giving Cedric a quick kiss on the cheek, leaving a broken down and emotionally drained sorcerer behind her.  After she was a consideraable distance away, you pushed down all your pent up rage and walk gently over towards your friend.

Give me a sign
Take my hand, we'll be fine
Promise I won't let you down
Just know that you don't
Have to do this alone
Promise I'll never let you down

"Tough Crowd," you remark. Cedric jumped, and you immediately felt bad for startling him. His eyes were dark and swollen, and he looked like he hadn't had a good nights sleep in days. The glass slippers, the cursed objects that started the whole ordeal, lay abandoned on the ground.

"Merlin's Mushrooms (Y/N),  you need to stop eves dropping on other peoples conversations," Cedric scolded tiredly, stooping down to pick up the beautiful shoes.

"Is she really worth is Cedric?" You gently place your hand on his shoulder. He brushed it away, glaring at you angerly.

"I thought you were going to be supportive," He snapped, "I thought you would be happy for me but no, all you do is criticize me and the girl who makes me the happiest I've ever been." Cedric's voice raised as he kept ranting, getting more and more angry.

You took a step back, each word cutting like knives through you chest. Its true, you hadn't exactly been unconditionally supportive, but how could you? You just wanted him to see that he was being manipulated, before it was too late. You stuck up your hand, cutting Cedric off mid-rant.

"I would love to be supportive," your tone was even despite the tight ball that was welling up in your throat. "If I knew you actually were the happiest you have ever been. So tell me..." You walked right up to Cedric and looked him right in the eyes.

"Are You?"

Cedric blinked, flustered by your sudden closeness and confrontational attitude. "Yes." He said firmly, as if he was trying to convince himself. You sighed, and stepped back.

"Then I wish you the best." you curtsy, then turn, and walk quickly away. You heard him call after you, but you didn't turn around, lest he see the tears flowing down your cheeks.

I know I can treat you better
Than she can
And any guy like you deserves the very best
Tell me why are we wasting time
On all your wasted cryin'
When you should be with me instead
I know I can treat you better
Better than she can oh oh

Better than she can

"Better than she can."
