"L-Lightstar?" Crystalpaw mumbled as she lifted her head, the RiverClan leader shook his fur before sitting down.

"Next time check for enemy before coming out of the tunnel." The leader said as he stood up, Crystalpaw blinked blankly before nodding. Lightstar softened his gaze before shaking his fur clean and headed to the stones that sat in the river, he stopped suddenly and stared in horror at the river.

"Where are the stones?" Crystalpaw asked as she stood next to the river, Lightstar sighed.

"There was a lot of rainfall last night, meaning the river is starting to flood. And then it will freeze." The leader told her, Crystalpaw stared at the dark water that lapt at her paws.

"Do - Do we have to swim?" She asked as she took a step back, the leader dipped his head.

"Yes."

"I - I don't know how to, the last time I crossed the stones Hollytail had to scoop me out because I fell."

The RiverClan sat thinking for a moment before looking up at the dark sky, he let out a sigh as he turned to look at Crystalpaw.

"Looks like now is the best time to learn." He purred before grabbing Crystalpaw by the scruff of the neck and throwing her into the dark water below, the small apprentice let out a wail for help as her body hit the water and she started to sink.

"Kick! Crystalpaw kick!" Lighstar yelled before diving in. "Kick! Just like walking or running!" He pushed his body down and pressed his flank against Crystalpaw'a before kicking his fore and hind legs, the two cats pushed against the water as hard as they could before pushing their heads out of the water and panted hard.

"Well done. Keep going." The RiverClan leader yelled as he pushed against the water and headed for the bank on the other side of the river, Crystalpaw panted hard as she pushed against the water and followed her leader. The RiverClan leader pushed through the water and onto the bank, slowly Crystalpaw pushed through and onto the bank before flopping down and panting.

"Come on kit, you still need to show me how good you are at hunting." Lightstar laughed before shaking his furr, Crystalpaw giggled before standning up and panting. "We'll make a RiverClan cat out of you."

Crystalpaw sighed as she looked at her paws, her fur still dripping with water.

"Lightstar?" Crystalpaw sighed. "If you don't mind me asking, why did you and Longclaw disapear when we got back from the gathering?" Lightstar stared at the water for a moment before turning to look at Crystalpaw.

"Longclaw had a vision a few days ago, he couldn't understand it. Or make out what it ment but the cat that told him was Berrypelt." Lightstar explained.

"Who is Berrypelt?" The small, lightly drowned apprentice asked, Lightstar let out a sigh of sadness as he stared at his paws.

"Berrypelt, she was my daughter." Lightstar told her. "And she was Longclaw's mate, they had four kits together but the first three were stillborn. The forth one was two moons on when she was stolen by a group of rogue cats when Longclaw took her out to see where her mother had been buried."

"What was her name?"

"Puddlekit. She was strong and playfull, and the only thing we had left of Berrypelt. But StarClan took her from us."

"Wait, you think she is dead?"

"Most likely." Lightstar said, there was no way he could say that Longclaw thought Crystalpaw was Puddlekit.

"Oh, then she will be with her mother and littermates looking over us, and over you." Crystalpaw purred happily trying to make Lightstar feel better.
