Chapter 15: Which Reality

Daniel said in complete frustration, "I still don't get it. Which reality is the genuine one?"

Jack said, "I don't get it either, Daniel, but I feel both of them are real." He paused, "I don't buy this reality splintering one damn bit, but it affects our Sam because her alternate has gone through some hellish horrors."

"I wonder if this Brandon Bowers character did the right thing by having them merged. How I see it — that isn't natural."

"What Sam told me the other day, it might be worse for her."

"Which one are you talking about?"

With more frustration — he did not mean to show — he said, "Both of them, and it is driving me crazy."

Daniel studied him for a moment and asked, "What is she feeling right now?"

"She is very sad that we couldn't be there for her, while at the same time it thrills her that we are with her now."

Janet Fraiser was leaning against the nearby table, listening to their conversations. She said, "It seems to me you can use this Force, Jack." In military situations, she would call him by his rank, but there were close friends, and she called him by his first name often.

He said, "How can I do that? They have not trained me to use it."

"Some can use this Force without training. You know for a fact, training only enhances one's ability. Sam has done the same at the SGC, even before that cup thing in the control room."

"I thought what Chari said about her ability to use the Force without training was a ruse to get her to this galaxy."

She smiled, "It might have been, but we all know she has done some wonderful things that have baffled many people." She paused, "even you have done things that no average person can do."

"Are you saying it was me that created the power source to get me to the Asgard's homeworld rather than the knowledge that they put in my head?"

"What I'm saying, this device I read about in one of your mission reports picked you out. I don't know if you would have survived it or not if the Asgards didn't remove all that was in your head, but here you are with us today in a galaxy far, far away. Explain that to me."

Daniel said, "I didn't ask you which Sam Carter was feeling. You automatically described how she felt."

A holographic image appeared of Sam Carter. She said, "Yes, my love. You have been watching over me. I have felt it even in the mines."

Jack was completely shocked, "You can talk to me?"

She gave a warm smile, "Whom should I talk to?"

"The Jack O'Neill that is with you, for one."

Still smiling, "You're him just as much, and you love me just as much, if not more." She paused and looked serious, "a lot has happened to me, and I thank you for being with me during those times."

"If I could have bought you in that auction..." After seeing Janet and Daniel confused, "she was being sold as a slave."

Daniel said, "I figured that much out, Jack, but how did you know it?"

"If I can use this Force, it is useless to me because I couldn't do one farkling thing... rescuing the person here talking to us."

Janet said, "She is talking to you, Jack. We just happened to be near you."

"She is right; I'm here for you, only." She paused, "I have you with me now, my love. You need to be with her. Please don't think I don't want your love anymore, but she needs you, too."
