Newt wasn't the only one worrying about tonight. The second he left the room, ______ leaned back in the bed, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. "What am I going to do..." she mumbled, opening her eyes and looking at the ceiling.

She had already decided that she was in love with Newt. Every inch of her body was telling her that this was love. What she and Draculous had was complicated, she was just a vessel for his obsession. She cared about him for a long time, that was until she tried to break up with him the first time. The second a fist hit her face for the first time, she was a prisoner of the relationship.

Newt was sweet. She cared about him, and he cared about her. He knew about her, knew about the situation with Draculous, and he cared about her anyways. He had helped her through everything, took care of her when she was injured, defended her from Draculous and his team of investigators. She never met anyone like him, someone who was ready to take care of her, defend her, and treat her with respect. He never gave up on her, even when it would've been so simple to.

How was he supposed to know? Would he feel the same? She was in love with him, but she didn't know if he was in love with her. Some deep, hidden, seething part of her kept saying that she didn't deserve him. I want to deserve happiness, she kept thinking, looking around the room. I want to let him know how I feel.

It had to be tonight. There was no way she was going to be able to sleep this close to him for this long without wanting to reach out to him, touch him, cuddle him. She wanted to sleep in his arms, and this was the perfect opportunity. She was ready to take her chances.

Newt was back nearly half an hour later, having changed into a pair of striped pajamas. He caught ______'s eye, smiling at her and sitting on the edge of the bed. He had spent almost every moment feeding his beasts thinking about what he was going to say to her, and now it was time, there was no use avoiding it anymore. "______... can I tell you something?"

This caught her attention, and she sat up a little straighter. "What is it?"

Newt bit his lip and his eyes drifted away for a moment before gathering the courage to look her in the eyes as he spoke. "I really adore talking to you, I adore being around you, and ever since I met you... my life feels like it's changed. My priorities used to be solely on my research, my beasts, on everything I still needed to know about them and the world. Now my focus had shifted... and it's shifted to you," he spoke softly, but ______ could hear every word, hanging onto it. "You're special, ______. I care about you immensely, and you've been kind and patient and forgiven me for taking away your memory and hiding things from you more than you should. I adore the way you haven't given up, and you're incredibly brave, and I think I'm... I know that I'm..." he trailed off, struggling to get the words out, the fear of rejection preventing the words from leaving his mouth.

______ smiled, not needing to hear the end of what he was going to say, because in that moment she knew. Her heart felt full, and she reached out, taking Newt's hands in her own. "I love you, Newt," she told him, and Newt's eyes widened. He looked shocked and flustered as she kept speaking. "I know what love should look like, and to me, it looks like you. You care about me, and you've gone above and beyond to help me, even when you didn't know who I was. You have such a big heart, Newt, and so do I. My heart bleeds, it bleeds for everyone who can't find someone as wonderful as you in their life. I was so worried that you wouldn't feel the same way about me that I feel about you since I'm... not like you. I'm a muggle, I'm ordinary, I'm... scattered around. I felt like there were pieces of me missing before, but when you're around me, I feel complete. I love you, Newt. I really do."

Newt was shocked into silence. He didn't know what to say, and he really wished he did. The silence wasn't uncomfortable, but it did seem to drag on. Finally, Newt found the way to express himself. "You're not ordinary, ______. You don't need magic to be special, I think you're amazing, and nothing's going to change that. You're incredibly strong, and to go through as much as you did and still be standing, happy... you're absolutely amazing, ______."

"Newt, you're so-"

Suddenly, the case was jolted around, and this caused Newt to fall right onto ______, laying on top of her on the bed. The movement didn't stop for a while, all the while ______ and Newt clung onto each other, Newt topping her as they laid on the bed. After a few minutes, the movements stopped, and Newt realized what position they were in. "I'm sorry," he said, starting to move off her. Before he could, she impulsively reached out and stopped him, taking Newt aback. "_______?"

"Just... it's not so bad," she mumbled, her face flushing. "Newt... can you kiss me?"

Newt's face flushed too, and his heart flipped. He felt overjoyed. "I'd... I'd like nothing more," he told her, leaning down and gently placing a kiss on her lips. His lips were warm and soft, and he kissed her so tenderly. There was something special about this kiss, something there she had never felt before. It was as if they were floating on a cloud of euphoria, and neither of them wanted to break apart. However, after what must've been close to a minute, they pulled away.

______ made a movement towards the wall, allowing for more room for Newt to lay down. "We should get to sleep," she told him.

"Probably, I'm guessing all that moving around means we're on the boat now. They're not usually too careful with baggage," Newt mused, thinking about his beasts. He was sure that they'd be okay. Right now, the only thing on his mind was the chance to sleep next to ______.

"We should go up to the deck tomorrow!" ______ stated happily.

"We will," Newt told her, getting under the covers. There was a pause as he mustered up his courage. "May I... may I cuddle you?"

______ smiled. "I'd like nothing more," she told him, repeating his words from before. Newt chuckled, moving closer to her. They wrapped their arms around each other, their legs intertwining. "Goodnight, Newt."

"Goodnight..." he muttered, and his heart jumped when she started nestling her head into his chest. he couldn't help but think that this was the best possible outcome he could've hoped for, and he hoped that Tina would be proud of him if she saw him now. He finally did it, and to his luck, she loved him back. He couldn't be happier.

______ was happy that everything was starting to work out. She found someone she loved, who she really loved, and she cared about him. He cared about her. She was finally getting away from her old life, and she was ready to start a new one. A new life she hoped that would mean Newt was by her side. She was excited to go up to the deck tomorrow and be out in public without the fear of Draculous finding her and dragging her back to him.

At least, that's what she thought. She underestimated the amount of his obsession, the lengths he would go to.

Ever since they suspected Newt would try to leave with ______, Draculous sent one private detective on a ship to Britain per day. The second they were seen on deck, he would know. He would find her, he would get her, she was his.

She didn't have a choice, and he never suspected that anyone would come in the way of that. He hadn't met Newt Scamander yet, but he would soon. He would see just how far Newt would go to protect her.

He had no idea he was about to be in the battle of his life.
