The night of the party, ______ spent more time getting ready than she could ever remember. Newt had surprised her earlier that day with a new dress, a 'self-ironing' one, according to him. He had bought it from a shop in Diagon Alley in her favorite color, and she adored it. After taking a shower and taking advantage of the time she had on her hands before Newt got home from work, she was looking forward to the party more than ever.
Once Newt got home, he was surprised to see that ______ had already gotten completely ready. As soon as he saw her, his jaw went slack and he couldn't help but stare at her. "______, I... you look amazing. Well, you always look amazing, but right now you look... radiant."
______ blushed and went up to Newt, pushing a few stands of hair out of his face. "Thank you for getting me this dress. I adore it." She leaned over and planted a small kiss on his cheek, watching him smile. "Now someone needs to get ready."
"It'll only take a few moments," Newt assured her, walking into his room. He decided on a black suit and a tie that matched ______'s dress. He thought about putting something in his hair but decided against it after telling himself he probably shouldn't overdo it. After checking himself one last time in the mirror for something out of place, he went back outside to meet ______.
"You look handsome," she stood up and brushed his shoulders impulsively. "You should dress like this more often. It's never a bad time to wear a suit, and you look so good in one."
"Really?" Newt asked, blushing and smiling before looking away for a moment. "I should admit to you ______, I don't go to a lot of parties, and I'm still pretty new to... erm..." he trailed off, lost for words.
"New to a relationship?" ______ filled in the words for him, and he nodded. "Don't worry about it, Newt. I'm no expert either, we can figure this out together. I think that as long as we're both happy, what we have can't be wrong. Right?"
Newt nodded and looked back at her. "You're right." He reached out an arm, allowing her to wrap her own around it. "Ready to go?"
"Ready as I'll ever be," ______ replied with a smile. Newt pulled out his wand and ______ gripped his arm a little tighter, knowing the feeling that was about to take place. Apparating had never been her favorite thing, but it was the easiest way to get from Point A to Point B. Besides, when she held tightly to Newt's arm, it wasn't as bad.
The falling feeling started, and she held onto Newt's arm tighter. It felt like a downward slope, falling into nothing, but the feeling ended as soon as it started when she felt solid ground beneath her. She opened her eyes slowly to see golden lights, hearing laughter around the room and seeing wizards and witches spread around the room. Newt looked over at her and smiled. "Welcome to the Ministry of Magic," he told her, watching as she looked around. Her eyes went wide as she took in the music, the chandelier, the golden lights and candles flying around the room.
"It's beautiful here," she muttered, looking around. She couldn't believe that this was how office parties looked in the wizarding world, the design alone was enough to put even the fanciest Muggle parties to shame.
Suddenly, the same coworker that invited Newt to the party in the first place came up to the two of them, smiling madly. "Newton Scamander! I'm glad you could make it!" he looked over to ______. "I'm guessing this is the Muggle you were referring to the other day?"
"My name's ______ ______," she told him, putting herself in the conversation. She wasn't a huge fan of being talked about like she wasn't standing right next to Newt and had the ability to speak for herself.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss ______," he said, taking her hand and shaking it with a charming smile. "My name's Richard. I'd love to stay and chat, but there's someone I've got to speak with. You two have a great night, I'm glad you came."
