Willow's POV
“Me?” he asked.
“Yes, you,” Jerold nodded. “Get dressed and go to the throne room right away,” Jerold instructed and then closed the door. Noah looked at me confused and I just shrugged.
“You better go,” I said. He nodded and got up to get dressed. “Come back soon,” I instructed as Noah kissed my forehead before leaving.
“I will,” he smiled. I watched Noah leave and then fell back on the bed and played with Panther.
“Hey Jerold!” I called out.
“Yeah?” he asked coming inside my room.
“What do you think the king and queen want?” I asked.
“I don’t know they just said it was urgent,” he shrugged coming to join me on the bed.
“Weird, I mean they haven’t really shown an interest in Noah. Why would they all of a sudden?” I asked him.
“Maybe because of the whole dinner thing,” Jerold said.
“You might be right. David probably told on me and Noah was kinda the reason we’ve been fighting in the first place,” I nodded. “I hope Noah’s not getting in trouble because of me,” I said quietly.
“Don’t blame yourself,” Jerold said touching my arm comfortingly.
“It’s kind of hard to,” I replied.
“Let’s change the subject, how was college?” he asked smiling.
“College was amazing. I met a lot of great people, some fae from the west coast, and I learned a lot. I’m happy I went away for college,” I said grinning.
“I’m glad you had fun,” Jerold smiled. “Why did you never come home?” he asked.
“I just got busy. I made new friends and they knew how far away family was for me so they took me into their families and invited me to holiday celebrations,” I shrugged. “Money was an issue for me a lot of the time because I was so focused on school I didn’t have time to work and save up money. But I sent Christmas presents, and birthday cards for Poppy.” I said.
“You could have just called the king or queen they would have gladly sent money over. Every holiday there was always an empty seat for you at the table, no matter how many people were there. They really missed you. Poppy treasured those birthday cards,” Jerold said with a sad smile.
“I know. I kind of neglected everyone over here for four years and I’m so very sorry about that,” I sighed. “Anyways what were you up to while I was gone?” I asked.
“Not much. I trained a lot so I would get moved up in the guard rankings. When the treaty was broken there was a lot of work that the guards needed to do and that’s when I stepped up and made my break, especially when the castle was attacked. I saved Poppy.” Jerold said proudly.
“Good, thank you for saving her from anything worse than a broken wrist,” I smiled.
“It was no problem at all,” Jerold smiled.
“What about your love life?” I asked. “Before I went away you were serious with that girl Partia,” I said.
“We broke up shortly after you left. She cheated on me. Since her I haven’t dated,” Jerold shrugged.
“Well that sucks. Do you want me to kill her?” I asked smiling.
“No you don’t have to,” Jerold laughed. Suddenly the door opened and Noah came in looking down.
“Noah, what did the king and queen want?” I asked standing and going over to him.
“Huh? Oh, they just wanted to ask about the whole dinner thing,” Noah said.
“I’ll leave you two to talk,” Jerold said standing up and leaving. The second the door closed Noah smashed his lips to mine and grabbed my waist. These kisses were different from others. They were urgent and fast. I returned just as strong as we fell on the bed wrapped in each other’s arms. Soon our clothes were off and the urgency behind his kisses eased. Soon after I fell asleep wrapped in Noah’s arms like every other night.
Hours later I woke up alone. Noah’s arm wasn’t around me like usual. I sat up and looked around. Panther was sitting by the door meowing loudly. I stood up causing her to look over at me. She padded over and butted her head against my leg. I picked her up and she let out a soft meow then looked at the door longingly. I walked over and shoved it open and stepped out. Jerold sat in a chair asleep.
“Jerold,” I said shaking him awake.
“What’s wrong Willow?” He asked opening his eyes.
“Have you seen Noah?” I asked.
“No, why?” Jerold asked.
“He’s not in my room,” I replied.
“Strange,” Jerold muttered.
“I need you to do me a favor,” I said.
“Anything.”
“Do you still talk to animals?” I asked.
“On occasion. You want me to ask Panther if she saw anything don’t you?” Jerold asked looking at Panther as she squirmed.
“Yes please,” I nodded. Jerold took Panther into my room and sat on the couch. They stared into each other’s eyes for a few minutes until Jerold put her down and came over to me.
“So,” I said hopefully.
“She saw everything. Noah picked her up, kissed her, came over to the bed. Put her down, kissed you on the lips and then left,” Jerold said to me.
“He left. Just like that? No warning or anything?” I said grabbing the bed post for support.
“Willow, are you okay? You’re turning pale,” Jerold said touching my shoulder.
“He’s gone,” I whispered.
