After everybody rushed out into the night to find the barn on fire, they stood in complete shock.

"What do we do?!"

"I'll call the fire department!"

"It'll burn to ashes by the time they'll arrive so we got to put the flames out by ourselves!"

"I'll start the generator and place the pump by the well!"

"Luke, you and Theresa connect the hoses to the well!"

"We're on it!"

"And I'll help!"

"Get that extra hose while we hook these up!"

"Got it!"

As Amelia ran to get the hose, she saw some cows running down the driveway but couldn't worry about that at the moment as she grabbed several hoses and ran them back to the other barn where Luke and Carter had hooked up the pump.

"Here!"

Amelia dropped the hose as she started to help attach it to the pump.

"Carter, some cows got out!"

"Can't worry about that right now!"

Luke gave Amelia a hose and pointed to the barn.

"Go!"

The water pressure was heavy as Amelia muscled the hose closer to the barn and started extinguishing, attacking the fire with multiple hoses with the generator roaring and the pump flowing water as much as it could.

"If we keep the flames to the right so they don't get to the hay, we have a chance!"

Amelia held the hose in her hand, she ran towards the flames and aimed right as she swung the hose and made a quick work dousing the flames out.

"I'll water down the hay so it won't keep burning."

"Be careful, Dad."

"Get those embers over there, Theresa!"

Theresa turned her hose on the embers that floated down that threatened to start another fire up.

"We're getting there!"

Between the heavy lifting and the heat, everyone was sweating more than usual.

"Amelia, we need more water on the left of the barn."

"On it!"

Amelia moved forward to get closer to the section on the left but the heat pushed back like a huge wall but Amelia expertly extinguished the flames, cutting them off from the left side.

"We're almost there!"

Finally, the bulk of the flames were extinguished as the barn was nothing but sizzling, charred wood as Luke finished the last hot spots while Carter and Wyatt stumbled out.

"I think we did it."

"Saved most of the hay but the barn..."

Just then, Amelia heard a soft squeaking sound behind her.

"What's that?"

She moved a piece of wood out of the way to find the baby kittens.

"Sally and her kittens!"

"I'm so relieved that they're okay."

She picked up Marley and snuggled her close to her body and she mewwed happily as Theresa petted the smallest kitten with tears in her eyes.

"Sally must've gotten them out when the fire started."

"How did all this started?"

"Hell if I know."
