When Lillianna first saw Mike she couldn’t believe her eyes. She thought that he was a figment of her imagination. Her heart bleated so fast that it hummed like a birds wings. Her stomach was filled with butterflies and her mind grew dizzy with joy and relief far beyond anyone could imagine. Oh, there he was, her knight on his dragon. Was it Cosmo? No, it was too big and more red than orange. But it didn’t matter, not when the bright sun reflected off his sandy blond hair that hung just above his sky blue eyes. She could have sworn that he was there and that he was coming to free her. But then it ended like all good dreams have to, it ended horribly. There was a horrible sound, a sound that made her scream, a sound that echoed through her ears and has echoed ever since. There was a soft click, a soft click of metal ever so slightly touching metal, and then, they fell. They fell so hard and so fast that Lillianna barely saw anything at all, but in her mind, the moment had split into a thousand pictures and they were playing themselves over and over again in slow motion.
She stood, perfectly still and unmoving, her shattered mind trying to process what she had seen and what she knew, trying to process the impossible. Empty, broken eyes rapidly scanned the ground far below, trying to see any sign of movement.
She could vaguely hear the grinding sound of the heavy door being opened, but it sounded far away and disoriented. Kai's voice floated in her direction but she couldn’t hear what he was saying, it didn’t matter anymore. Shaking, she turned to face him, and found his face cold and hard, with a wide crocodile’s grin, that was opening and closing like he was speaking. Lillianna’s strength suddenly left her and she fell on her knees with a heavy thud, bent her head and wept, with only knowing that she had, the only thing that mattered, she was alone and all was lost. She wept for Mike and Flame wishing that they would come back hoping that it was all a dream but when she looked out her window she would see the metal net and tears would roll down her cheeks like a lake flowing down a hill. When she had cried so much that she could cry no more she sank to the hard stone floor, curled into a ball and fell into a dreamless sleep.
