On the fire water screen images started to flash and the screen pulsed faster and faster, until everything stopped. An image of Liliana with her to captors dressed all in black walking on to a boat showed on the screen. But Jewel looked behind Liliana, to where flame and mike went down, but there was only dust so the 11 dragons started to hurrr again and the 11 riders where ready to jump back behind the rock. But then a black dragon with bright rainbow markings swooped down on the dust. The beating of his mighty wings alone made the tree tops bend. The dust flew and revealed mike and flame. Then in one powerful claw he picked them up and flew away. In a few beats of his powerful wings he was far over the mountain ranges and out of sight.
“No!” Destany shirked at the screen.” You bring them back! You hear me! Bring them back!”
“Destany there’s nothing we can do, you know who that was, there’s nothing we can do.” Peter replied, only just holding himself together.
Then Destany sank to the floor and let her tears join the water fire wall. The others joined her and the dragon’s hurred louder but no one cared because deep inside their dragon souls, they were hurring to.
When they had cried all their tears, Destany had flown of and Peter had told Astrid to go after her.
“So, Peter who was that dragon that upset Destiny so much?” Tash asked.
“Ethereal, the caretaker of the dragon world, he also dose riders that are so closely bound that they are one, and so that they only cannot pass on to the next world unless they are buried together,” Peter replied solemnly.
“No. you don’t think he is…” She started.
“Well, that’s what she thinks,” He cut in, to stop her from saying the word dead.
“And you, what do you think?” She asked shyly.
“Nah, I mean it’s impossible but fifteen years ago the very idea of dragons was impossible, so I guess that with him anything can happen,” He said, deep in thought.
Just then Astrid came back in with Destany.
“Hi guys I’ve found her and calmed her down a bit,” Astrid reported.
“Thanks Astrid, hay Destiny you listen to me, it is going to be okay,” Peter promised.
“How can you say that, no its not, they are dead, dead! Destany yelled, sobbing before she jumped on Phoenix and flew off again.
“I thought you said you calmed her down,” Peter groaned, exhausted.
“I’ll go after her,” Astrid sighed.
“No, just give her some space and besides our dragons need a rest,” He said looking at Justice’s droopy eyes.
Meanwhile Phoenix sensed that their leader was calling her clan to rest and wondered why they were still flying, very fast; in the opposite direction. So she gave her mistresses a little hurrr to tell her.
“Yes, Phoenix I know he’s not here, but don’t you worry because we are going to find them,”
Phoenix rolled her eyes in frustration at her mistress’s inability to understand her. She thought that it wasn’t fair that her mistresses refused to spend any time working on their bond so that they could talk to each other. All the other dragons could and as a result they worked better with each other. So whilst the other dragons were racing on the obstacle course. She and Destany where trying to detangle themselves from the nets that catch the wild dragons on the path to the course. She decided that she had, had enough and that she will strengthen their bond weather Destany liked it or not. So she grunted and landed, ignorant to Destany pulling sharply on her rains.
“Phoenix!” Destany Screamed. “What are you doing?”
Phoenix kicked off Destany, calmed her and Destany’s spirits, and then she slowly moved closer to Destany.
“Phoenix, what are you doing?” Whispered Destany, scared by her dragons sudden change of behaviour.
Phoenix moved her head and relaxed it on her mistresses’ shoulder.
“Phoenix, whatever you are doing I don’t have time for this!” Destany Yelled.
She moved away and grabbed Phoenix’s saddle thinking what a dumb dragon she had chosen.
“Go Phoenix!” Destany Commanded, angrily.
But Phoenix didn't want to go; she wanted to be able to understand her mistresses, like a friend, not just understand commands and the emotions in her mistresses’ voice like a dog or a slave.
“Ok then you dumb dragon, I will find a way off this stupid island myself!” She yelled, sharply, getting into the water.
“Hurrr.” Phoenix sighed, shaking her head and curling up to rest.
Sunset came, but Destany swam on, nagged on by fear for Mike, confusion for the way she acted, concern for herself and jealousy of Lilliana. She didn’t rest, drink or eat. She just swam on. Eventually she came across a sandy island and swam to shore. Tired and cold she built herself a sturdy, makeshift shelter, as her training taught her to do. Then curled up and slept. She dreamt about her knight’s school, her dragon, her home and about Mike.
