Talon stood there, sweating and shaking, unable to move in any direction without seeming suspicious or risking Lillianna being seen. Lillianna looked behind her; they were completely through the gate. She took a deep breath, steadied herself, thought about a thousand different ways this could go, and hid her emotions, putting her personal thoughts and feelings aside, just like she used to before she went into a room for one of Fathers fancy meetings(I swear that there’s a proper name for this). She stepped out from behind Talon and the look on Kais face almost made her laugh, almost. His face showed surprise, then shock, then a glimpse of betrayal and finally, pure anger.
“What in the world do you think you are doing to huge, stupid ox?” Kai yelled, red faced. “Put her back in the cage or I swear…”
He was cut short by Lillianna before he could start saying things that I would dare not repeat.
“This ‘ox’, as you so bluntly put it, is now my friend, and he is a world braver then you. He does not hide away when trouble comes like you, he is a man, and you, ‘good sir’ are less than the cremated ash of a worm.” She said tonelessly, staring at him with cold eyes and a serious face.
“Come along Talon, we are leaving.” She continued.
So with head held high, shoulders back and back straight, she strode, proudly out of the cave. Talon shook his head, confusion and relief on his face, then ran after Lillianna. Meanwhile, Kai just stood there, feeling strange, shocked and powerless. When they got out of the cave Lillianna walked and walked, she just wanted to get as far away as possible; it didn’t matter where, anywhere but there. She was so happy to finally feel the sun on her face as a free person, to walk without boundaries and live life without restrictions. She felt that she was truly free and fully independent. She was so happy that she didn’t realise how tired and hungry and thirsty she was, not until the light became dark and the sky became the ground, if Talon hadn’t been keeping an eye on her and caught her, then she would have hit the ground, hard.
The first thing she saw was a crackling fire, she woke up and felt a warm blanket wrapped around her. She groaned and looked by her head, there sat Talon, warming his hands by the fire and looking at the stars, when he saw her, his face lit up.
“Ah, finally with us Princess, you’ve been out all yesterday and today,” he grinned.
Lillianna tried to get up but Talon placed his hand on her shoulder and clicked his tongue.
“Not yet, you’re still pretty weak, I’ve been giving you water you and feeding you what I could find, you should rest for now and then well figure out what to do,” He said sternly.
“The sea…” Lillianna whispered weakly, before falling back asleep.
Talon looked at her, his eyes full of concern and mateship for his first friend. He wasn’t shore how to handle having a friend but he knew how to take care of other people, he was good at reading them and telling wat they wanted. Lillianna had set him free and he was going to make shore no one ever hurt her. He was her friend, not just her mussel for hire and she respected him, so he was going to respect her, and treat her as well as he knew how to. For now that meant keeping her comfortable, warm and nursing her back to full health.
